SAFutureFC... or anyone else that might know....
My fiance is currently in boot camp with a PIR on 5/7/10 (obviously haha). He is staying in Great Lakes, IL for A school as well... his rate is HM - hospital corpsman. I'm wondering if I will only be able to visit him Liberty Weekend? Or if there is a way to visit the sailors on base during phase one of A School? In that case I'd look into staying for a longer visit than just the short weekend. I live on the west coast so it's quite a production to go to Chicago to see him... I'm flying in for PIR on Thursday, PIR is on Friday, he gets liberty weekend, then has to check back in Sunday night. If I stay an extra couple nights (Mon, Tues, Wed or so) would I be able to see him after school? I don't mind going on base if I have to...
Thanks for your help!

Can anyone tell me, when your sailor's A school is in Pensacola or any other place for that matter. Does each A school have a specific day/time that our sailor leaves? I guess I was assuming that I would get to spend the whole weekend (minus when she has to be back at base) with my daughter. But I think I read somewhere that for A school in Pensacola they leave the day after graduation. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks
Joanne

I have gotten no phone calls and no letters. Hopefully I will get one or the other this week. My son is just starting his 3rd week. I'm trying to be patient!

The positions are volunteer mainly, but also based on performance. The PO jobs the RDC's appoint but if they mess up they RDC's can also demote. The section leader jobs based more on performance, atleast in my division they were. Those positions were given to the recruits who kept their clothes folded the best and would help others with their folding. They were required to go around and check the other racks to make sure things were folded and stowed properly. There are a few benefits to having the leadership positions but at the same time they are put in the the RDC's eyes more, so they have to weigh their options there.

SAFutureFC- How do recruits come into these positions of leadership? Is it like, a volunteer thing? Based on performance? Is there a benefit to having one of these leadership positions over being a normal recruit?

For those of you with Recruits on ship 12, it is called the USS Trition, SSRN-586, a nuclear-powered radar picket submarine. Here is the Wiki link to the history behind the Sub and why it became famous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Triton_%28SSRN-586%29
