Good Morning Everyone! As you can see i just joined your group, my fiancee is in div 181. I graduated boot in Nov '09, so if you have any questions about what your kids are talking about in their letters, such as abbreviations, or what they are saying they are doing, i will try and help answer them. As i can see most of you have gotten "the box", don't worry if the form letter comes a day or so later, since the boxes are made up and mailed like the day after they get there and the form letters are done a few days later. Also keep in mind how far away you are from the Great lakes area, some letters take 3 days some take 7 days. At first your SR will only be allowed to send letters on Sundays, after a few weeks, they are allowed to write letters for 30 min on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as mail them on those days. When you get your first phone call, the best thing to do is just listen, they will be bursting w. info to tell you and they have a limited amount of time to tell you it all. The questions about how are you, are you getting enough to eat, etc, can be asked in the letters. If you ask a lot of questions, especially yes/no questions, type of a checklist with space for added comments, you'll get a lot more info from your SR then if they have to write everything you want to know out. If you all have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the link to the map Mom2sailorsX3. As I read it, it means our sailors-to-be are in the "USS Triton." Nice to be able to put some context around all those big, blank roofs on the Google Maps satellite shots.

Got our son in a box and 1st letter yesterday. My understanding thus far is NOT to count on that date till they get MUCH closer. All info on this site this far has been VERY helpful, including the fact that most cell phone providers offer military suspensions for they cell phone accounts at NO COST for boot camp and/or deployments. I can confirm Verizon does and it only took one phone call !!!!

Our son left on 3/16. We got "the box"on the 19th and the letter with his division and grad info on the 22nd. It all came a lot sooner than we expected.

Three cheers for graduating on Mother's Day weekend!
