I'm debating on whether I should make my son's favorite dessert and bring it up to him or not. I know he's said bring cash cause he wants to eat...but just not sure.

My kid is a big meat eater and really likes a good steak - but usually only gets one when mom is footing the bill :) We live in a very small town with only the standard drive-thru's ie Mac Donalds, BK, and Popeyes - that is it....40 miles to the nearest sit down chain...so I am anxious to just eat good for a week - lol We really like Soup Plantation (one very near), Red Robins (great hamburgers), Joes Crab Shack (one in Gurnee) and also like to try non-chain restaurants. I heard about a great fish place that brings in fresh fish daily - usually about 15 different varieties, just north of downtown Chicago that I am anxious to try. We will go there after the week-end is over since my son believes he does not like fish....I believe it is just because he won't try it - even as a young kid I could never get him to try it. Oh well his loss! There seems to be lots of restaurants in the area but I get kind of confused as to which areas are close by Gurnee. On Saturday (as of now) we are going into Chicago via train - my son's request - so I am sure we will find lots of choices - but I worry about having to get him back in time. I think the kids might just want to sit down, be able to have a conversation while they are eating and take their time? From what my kid has said, meal time is just to eat - no time to enjoy or talk - and not 'cleaning your plate' is wasting and can result in IT or......and talking while eating might result in the entire division having to get up from their meal and leaving the dining room. I am scared my kid is gonna forget he has manners - he said he just 'shovels the food in as fast as he can' - ughhhh! Hopefully they will not have to do that anymore and it is not a habit they have learned! :)

Hey All - Well BS is over and I am anxiously awaiting that phone call that tells me my son is a sailor - as I am sure you all are. Since we had 4 divisions those phone calls should be coming soon - wonder if there are enough phones (that work - lol) - I am so anxious to hear the good news - I couldn't even go to work today just too excited/anxious...lol please let us know when you receive your call so I can calm down....lol I think I read that they usually call around 3pm (EST)??

On another note - does anyone know of a good steak house relatively close to the area (not Outback) of Gurnee/Waukegan? Any recommendations? My kid wants sweets and steak....I got the sweets part covered but thought perhaps someone would have a recommendation?

Did you get the instructions on how to open the umbrella? LOL. It is 7:43 in Dayton Ohio that makes it 6:43 in Great Lakes. Less that 2 hours and our sons and daughters will officially be sailors. I slept pretty good last night once I fell asleep so I think that means everyone is safe and made it. At least that's my storey and I'm sticking to it. haha. See you all tomorrow 9 can't believe it's here) and will post asap when I get my "I'm am sailor " call.

Robin- we're kind of in the same boat! My fiance has a dirtbike (his love, a close second to me haha) that has been sitting in unrecognizable peices for the past year. Me & his family took it to a friend from church who is really good with that kind of thing and my fiance will now have an up and running dirt bike when he returns home for his things :) Not quite a Boot Camp grad surprise since he won't be getting it till after A School but still.

Mom2Sailors- You're so cute! haha never had an umbrella before :) This is so funny being that I've lived in WA all my life!
