Let's help those who are coming to PIR by themselves find each other so that no one is traveling alone from the airport to Great Lakes.

Hey everyone. I don't post things on here very often, but I really enjoy reading the comments every day. My son is in Pensacola Fl. at NAS not Corry Station. I was just wondering if there were any other moms with a son or daughter there. We visited our son last week end it is a very nice base. I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe 4th of July week end.

Hello everyone!!! We just got back from another trip to Chicagoland for a wedding. We were able to have dinner with Jamie Friday night and spend all day with him on Saturday. So good to see him again and he seems to be really liking this Navy thing! I do believe that when his Dad had to take him back to GL on Saturday (while I stayed behind at the reception) I felt a lot like you did after PIR. I knew on June 6 that I would see him again in three weeks, so I was o.k. Well, let me tell you, I was in tears this time something terrible. Oh well, he might make it home after A School. How many of you are planning on attending graduation from A School? Jamie keeps telling me that I don't have to, but in our Corpsman group some of the families do go and really enjoy it. And besides I have yet another wedding to go to right around the time he will be graduating!! How convenient!

AirRescueMom - that's a bummer, sounds like old bc tactics again. Can't believe he is still in GL. What's the waiver for? Is he going to Pensacola? Very strange, and sad for him. That sailor is probably bored out of his mind, but he sure didn't have to do that - and mess it up for everyone. Tell Bub it WILL be different when he finally gets there. It's like the difference between High School and College - totally different attitudes and everyone is a grown up. Wishing you luck!!!!

Helping and encouraging those moms dealing with "slackers" in their kids divisions. Oh, and one of the newest PIR groups (8/13) are waiting for their first letters (only received form letter so far). Did we sound that insane when we first started?? Okay, don't answer that - I already know (YES we were!). Hope you are are doing well.

Found out from my A-School group that the DVD's and Keel books are sailors ordered take about 4-6 weeks to arrive, and don't always come together. Now I just need to find out who Brandon had them mailed to, me or his gf. Anyone care to place a bet on which house it goes to??? lol.....

There's a N4M user named "Hoppi aka Angie" who actually works at RTC and is very helpful on this site. She's direct and to the point (very busy lady), but has a wealth of info!
She just told me that for Great Lakes A-School sailors, they only have two phases of liberty, not three.

Kahtyjeanba - next time ask him if he hangs up quick when they yell Ketchup too! lol.....

AirRescuemom & Rebecca4, our sailor is still at GL too. He called just to chat on Friday evening (Sobe, I heard the call to muster and he was quick to end the call :])
and called his dad yesterday for Father's Day, aren't cell phones grand!

Thought I would post this, just in case someone doesn't have the info! Sobe (Lisa)

Liberty is different than Leave. Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved. Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to leave the base but they are still "on duty" and cannot travel far and they are still accountable for their whereabouts and some even have duty while on liberty.

There are three (3) phases of Liberty - all of which must be earned. They can also be taken away!

Phases are like being a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. They get different privileges depending on how long they have been at school. Phases are the same at all A schools, but the amount of time in each phase varies between schools.

Phase I is for sailors who have just arrived. They are required to wear their uniforms at all times outside of their barracks, are not allowed to leave base and are required to muster three times each day.

Phase II sailors have been at the school for an average of 2-6 weeks. They can wear civilian clothes and they can go off-base - only with a liberty buddy. They are not allowed to stay out overnight.

Phase III are sailors who have been at the school approximately 4-12 weeks and have shown personal responsibility. They no longer have to attend evening muster and can stay out overnight.

Student sailors may be "phased back" or denied the next phase if they fail inspections, miss PT or morning muster or otherwise get in trouble. Even while in Phase III, there are certain cities they are not allowed to go to and there is a mileage boundary line which is unique for each A-School. For example, NASP/Corry Station in Pensacola, FL do not allow sailors to go to New Orleans.
