sandi: What kind of items does he want you to send? Because they aren't allowed "care packages" persay. Are you talking about what he wants you to bring to PIR for him? Just be careful what you send up there because he can get in trouble for it. He needs to "clear it" with RDCs before requesting that you send. Phone cards are fine...a couple of bandaids in a letter are fine...contac lenses for PIR are fine with a small amount of solution....beyond that, be careful! He will have to open any packages in front of the RDCs.
Funny story...my son was there for Thanksgiving/Christmas 2009. He received a care pkg. From TX. Knew no one in TX then. Had no clue who sent it. No name. Had to open it...it was full of goodies...yum. Well, of course he was not allowed to keep it...he is not much of a sweet eater and not knowing who sent this kind of freaked him out anyway--didn't matter...he couldn't keep it...and they grilled him about who would have sent it...so of course the RDCs confiscated it. Later on, he saw them eating the goodies in their office...thought that was funny! Never did find out who sent the pkg to him. Strange.
They don't only encourage them to write home, they MAKE them write at least one letter each writing time. Can't say that they would ever take writing privileges away from them, but they may threaten that if they are using it for discipline. But normally, they are allowed to write and they receive their mail.
Remember, they can't write for 2 weeks and mail is held for that length of time also. When I say "write", I mean "mail out." I think kiminaz is correct. I bet there are a bunch of letters leaving RTC today from PIR 8/26!
Reggie: Just "google" Navy Lodge-Great Lakes if you want to get info on it.
has anyone with an SR in ship11 div 274 recieved a letter or phone call? we havn't heard from the kid since his form letter arrived 8 days ago...i thought i saw a blurrp on here about their RDC being very strict and not allowing them any privileges? is that true? he can deny him writing privilges? hold his mail from him indefinately? and NO calls at all ever? is this true? just trying to prepare myself..and understand... maybe i'm getting posts mixed up?
