I received my first letter today - It was sent on Sunday and we are in Illinois so that came pretty quick. He sounded upbeat and getting used to Navy life. I am feeling happy and glad the letter was good. Some of my fears are at ease. I am praying you all receive letters this week.

I meant he will be leaving Saturday after graduation, not this Saturday. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

I got my first letter today!! My son is in Div 928 Ship 06. He is on a Grad N Go so he leaves for FL on Saturday. He will be going to AO school there. Just wanted you all to have faith that you will be getting letters soon.

Nancy my son put the wrong zip code on his box he left on the 7th I didn't get the box until the 13th Fed ex will fix a zip code if they can. our Letter wasn't even post marked until the 13th we got it on Friday the 16th so really just a couple of days ago, and if it had the wrong zip, I don't think the post office would fix it. I also frequently get my neighbors mail so that makes it take a few more trys. One thing is pretty certain if there was something relly wrong they would call. Our recruiter gave us his ship and Div # so we could start writing. Hope this helps.

Nancy, we've had no calls other than the one when he got to GL [ but he brought his cell and then packed it in the box.] The form letter came a day later[ 4 days from when he left same as your son].
I didn't know they had a 'choice'?
But maybe like Marilyn says- he somehow got your address wrong or maybe the good ole' us post office messed up.
Still maybe the recruiter can help you. That form letter is awful important for the info you need- not just the address of your son but the password for PIR.

Nancy -(not usure if this helps or not...!)
My guess is that your son may have written something like the zip code or something that the postal service couldn't or didn't read correctly. I very much understand your concern, and I would call the recruiter and see if they can track it down or at least give you some of the information you are needing. My son left the same time and my letter got there a few days before the box. (we are in VA, so it's pretty close) The other thought is that I am HOPEFUL that Sunday was their first time to get to write letters home (second weekend) so you may be getting a hand written letter from him this week. Have you written to him to let him know you haven't gotten the letter? The recruiter would have his mailing address for you if you haven't already gotten it. I would consider following up that way - and PLEASE let us know if you hear anything!! Praying you hear something soon!

I'm not sure if I have the answer for Nancy but I would check with the recruiting office and see if they have any information. Form letter should have arrived before the box and you should have gotten an phone call when he arrived at GL but probably won't get any other calls or letters for several weeks from how I understand it. Hope this helps...

Can one of the more experienced moms address Nancy's concerns? No form letter at this point?
Comment by Jakesmom on April 20, 2010 at 3:17pm
I haven't heard anything either yet. Must be something with the ship/division. Makes me worry a bit. According to my husband letters/phone calls are privilages earned only if the whole division is doing well. Lets keep praying our guys are doing well.....
