As far as a graduation present: I bought my son a laptop, in a way, selfishly--in hopes we can keep the communication flowing! Will be getting Skype set up! As far as what to wear......I am all for being cool! Capris!

I just wanted to share my thoughts on "what to wear" it's very warm in the building they graduate in because you're talking a couple thousand or more people, you will be sitting a long time, I thought about a dress but my friend who went said that slacks, capris, something comfortable because depending where you sit you may be climbing alot of stairs, and you may not want everyone looking up your dress if you know what I mean? Comfortable shoes, I'm thinking maybe red white and blue but not sure yet? Can't wait to meet all of you moms. Julie, Ship 10 Division 256!

I just looked through the messages. (I haven't been on for the last few days.) I saw your comment about being from Jersey Village. We had friends that bought a house on a golf course out there when it was first being built. (late 70's, early 80's) Of course that was the place the place to go for parties and to hang out.

Excuse my "your" instead of you're. Pushed "send" before reading over my stuff.

Sayde Rose - that sounds great. I'm shooting for dressy casual then. And I think your right about just being glad to see you.

Emsmom, I've read PIR is anywhere from t-shirt and jeans to dressy. I'm buying a cute dress but I've seen a lot of moms say they wore nice slacks and a blouse. I don't know what to buy my boyfriend I think he is just glad I'm making the trip up there :)

We did not think about bringing a PRESENT. Our daughter had mentioned in her letters that she wants to go somewhere nice to eat. We had reminded her to order all pictures, etc. and we would get those. We had hoped to maybe take a boat tour. We were bringing an extra battery for her laptop, her phone, an extra phone cards and several other items like this, but not exactly presents.

I've been waiting for someone else to ask this question, but no one has yet that I can see. What are you guys wearing to PIR? Is this dressy? Do we wear jeans, capris, dresses, suits?

I got the info on getting married. I had forgotten which group was talking about it, so Hoppi posted it on the ones I gave her, but turns out it was this group! Sorry, I have CRS (Can't Remember Stuff - and yes, there is another word that fits better, but I won't type it here!) lol...

I was asked to come over here and post about marriage during PIR weekend. It is not allowed! That will be stressed to your loved one. As for the USN paying for the family to move to the "A" School, they will not pay for family to move to "A" School...unless...1) they where married prior to leaving for bootcamp and 2) that school allows families to be at the "A" School The schools must be a certain lenght. Recommend if you are married that you wait for your loved one to get to the "A" School and find out than if they are allowed to move thier family there.

If you are not married and wanting to get married, wait until your loved one is at the "A" School there they will find out the rules about what needs to be done to be able to get married.

Lace - Your son is saying the exact things my son said to me in his letters. Now that I can talk to him every day, it's amazing what he shares with me. I told him about Div 242, and how they had to redo 2 hrs of BS-21. He understood it perfectly and agreed with the Navy. He said it's not that every recruit needs to know how to do each and every task in that 12 hr exercise, they are mainly graded on how they worked together. Did the division follow advice from another recruit, did they determine who knows this task the best and follow that recruits orders, did the same person always lead (not good). The fact is, if they work well together in an emergency at sea (which is what this exercise is all about), they will truly be good sailors - which is why they are not considered sailors until they pass this exercise. So teamwork - and putting personalities aside, and following the lead of someone you may not like is what it is all about. Stepping up and being the leader is important too. It's called respect for your shipmate - and that is truly what this whole thing is all about. Brandon talked my head off yesterday, I couldn't shut him up!!! He just kept stressing the same thing over and over - then told me to share it on N4M.
