Okay... I need some help here! I got a letter from my boyfriend today, with what I believe is exciting news, but I honestly don't know anything about it. He wrote to me,

"I signed up for ceremonial guard. I wasn't going to tell you, because I don't know if my driving record will keep me from getting in or not, but a lot of plus sides in it for us... A. I would be in DC. B. I would be there for 2 years with NO deployments, so I could see you a lot. C. I would be around a lot of important people, i.e. the president, master chief petty officer of the navy, dept of defense, and so on. It would put my A school on hold for those 2 years, meaning we could get married and they would move you down to DC with me. They chose me out of about, Idk, how many thousand people here... me and about 30 others...."

Okay, so any more information or correction of information he gave me? I was planning on a life on the west coast ha, but it's looking like I'll be closer to home (Pittsburgh) after all for a little bit. Does this require further training? Does it start right after boot camp, like A school would? Will he be able to have his phone with him right away in DC? Does this mean he will be automatic G&G? I'm just lost, haha. Please help!!

My son is on Ship 10 Div 257. I don't think I have seen anyone from that Division yet. He seems to be doing pretty well. Apparently there are some in his division that are not serious either but he said he is learning from everyone else's mistakes, even though they all usually have to pay the price. Hopefully that is working out better by now. He stays pretty neutral and does what he needs to do. I waited all weekend for the mid call and it came Monday when I was at the doctors. Unfortunately I missed it. I was devastated but could tell from the tone of his letters and by talking to his girlfriend that he has adapted as well as can be expected. I have enjoyed reading info on this site and have been successful at knowing when to expect letters and calls. You guys are right on target. We're about at the half way mark! I am curious abut the written test they had to take when they got there. He said they will know results in week 5. I thought they already signed contracts for the program they are going into. Does anyone have any info on that?

Sue(Rife'smom), I thought A school was 3 months and then combat school of 1 month. So that would explain the 16 weeks. But I am not sure. Just going by what my son had said.

Yes! I came home to 2 letters from my son ,and once I finished reading them he called. I was so happy to hear his voice. He is adjusting quite well but others in his division just aren't taking things serious. He said they received 2 new uniforms one being the white ones and they that they really look nice. There is a discrepency on his time in A school. Still not sure. He's studying to be an Electricians Mate and was told by the recruiter that it was 6 wks, but now others are saying 16 wks. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

This is totally unrelated, but I can't get my picture to work for my username thing. Did anyone else have trouble or am I just having a brain dead moment??

Jackie, Thanks for the heads up on the phone calls. I'm at work today for 12 hour and just realized my phone was not with me, it is now!

Pauly girl: my son is ship 6 div 937, I haven't received a call from him. But I have gotten 3 letters (besides the form letter). He surprisingly said it wasn't as hard as he thought. And his only complaint was the food.

I guess I am a little concerned that I don't see anyone else from Ship 6 Div 937 I hope I have the right call?
