I was hoping I'd get a call from my son today, but unfortunatley I didn't. I'm happy for all of you that did hear from your loved ones though!
Did anyone from Ship 4 Div 817 get a call today?

Received a call today... Hope everyone else did too. It sure made for a great day. My son sounded so good, besides having a terrible cold. From what he said, theres alot of this going around. Can't wait to see him. Any suggestions on lodging? Plane tickets are purchased, but not sure where to stay. Thank you, Rose

mamaduck, I got a call today too. What a relief to hear his voice. It was much better than the "I'm here" call. I think he & I both needed it. He said that he just received his first batch of mail and didn't have to time to read all of it yet. But had some to send out, that will go out tomorrow. Of course I had to promise to make the family phone call round.

My son called today ship 12 div 260. He said he had his wisdom teeth pulled and most everybody has had colds. He said he is not allowed to have his things ( cell phone) until he gets to Pennsacola. He also said one of the guys in the bunk next to his has a mom on Navy4moms, he doesnt know anyones first name though. It was so nice to talk to him today, he sounded great.

I had the understanding, regardless of grad and go, that we could give our new sailor's their things at the airport! Is that not correct?? I had a list of things to give him before he flew out to Pensacola! ?????

Tyra - it's more than just a few hours, please know that! My son was a G&G and we thought the same thing, but spent a total of 9 hrs with him on Friday, then almost 5 hrs with him on Sat at the airport. It was totally worth it, and I came out from California (2 flights - correction, 2 delayed flights just to get there). AND..... you can give him his cell phone at the airport!!!! Which means you can call and text whenever you want! Those who are not a G&G stay in Ship 5 at bc and cannot have phones, they have to wait until they arrive at their A-School, get an address and then wait for someone to ship it to them. Seeing my son was incredible, but being able to talk to him anytime I wanted was more valuable to both of us. Had I spent the entire weekend with him, then not be able to communicate with him for another week or week and a half, that would of been harder on me. But that is our experience. Most of the G&G moms I kept in touch with all agree that having a phone in our kids hands that fast was better than having an extra day with them - it's hard to explain, hope I said it right!

APO is athletic petty officer, and RPOC is recruit chief petty officer. I wouldn't have known except she told me what it was! I am sure she is just tired - I think short on sleep is always the case - and she mentioned having to "get up at 1200 to iron her skivvies so her rack would look perfect for yet another inspection". She's had to have 3 wisdom teeth cut out Thursday, and since this letter was written prior to that I'm sure she had plenty of time to dread that! Hopefully it is just an off day, and the next was better.

Got a letter from my daughter today. She says she can't believe she actually left the comforts of home to go there and be screamed at every day. I feel so bad for her! I think she's doing ok, she is the APO in her division, and said that they (her fellow recruits) are trying to get her to go for RPOC, so she must be doing something right, but I just hate it she is unhappy with her choice right now. :(

Thanks Cath! Yes, this site is for bragging, crying - just about anything, but since my son is out of bc and I'm here to help, I didn't want to brag too much since you guys are still going through this. But I feel so comfortable on N4M - it's become my second home.
