I just got a call from my husband...YAY!!!! I didn't recognize his voice! Best feeling ever, even though it was only about 10 minutes long.

I think we're all in the same boat with them receiving our letters. My husband said they can only send and receive mail on Sundays, so maybe this Sunday they will get ours. Mine hadn't gotten any of mine until around the 16th, in which he got one. I felt bad also, because he seemed sad I hadn't written much, but I did! He just hasn't gotten them yet. We are also going to be in the Ramada...but what is this meet and greet? Is it for the families?

P.S. he said there are 88 guys in his Div. and they have 45 min. for all of them to shower :)

I got my first letter today! He sounds good..&& he started getting mail last Thursday. He said half the mail that came was for him and that made him feel good. We got his address from his recruiter the day after he left for BC- so that is probably why he is already receiving mail. I know many of you had to wait to get the form letter before sending your letters. He said there are some cool guys there and then there are some that talk a lot and they get in trouble and have to do IT. ( I am sure it is none of our boys...lol!) He said that they had a couple of guys drop for medical reasons and another that had a seizure. He also said that they have an awesome RDC that keeps them motivated and helps them a lot.:) that made me feel good. And he has to get his wisdom teeth removed.:( I am so happy to know he is ok...

Have any of your sailors gotten the letters you've sent yet? I am on my 45th letter I have written to my husband ( i know i sound pathetic, but I am italian, I like to talk a lot, and he made me promise before he left to write everyday...so I write a few times a day) and at the end of the letter that I got from him today, dated june 16, he said he couldn't wait to finally get letters from me. He should have at least gotten one right? now I am paranoid that I sent them to the wrong address! haha someone save me from myself!

Got my first letter today as well! I just couldn't stop smiling...my husband wrote more than I think I've ever seen him write before...He said everybody calls him "token" cause he is the only black guy in his entire division...I told him, well you only half count as a token, because his mother is white and father is black, so he's only half a token...lol, he said the same thing about there being guys from ages 18 to 27 and a lot of them don't know when to shut up, so they have a lot of extra PT to do...and he said the bathroom situation takes some getting used to, lol...but all in all he sounds well...I hope he gets my letters soon, because at the end of his letter he put "write me as much as you want, and send pictures, one guy even got 5 letters the other day"....that made me a little sad cause I am writing, I guess he just hasn't gotten them yet....but I will make sure I write something everyday...

I got my first letter today! It feels sooooo great to hear from him and know he is doing ok!
He said there are a number of guys in their group that slack off and get them in trouble. The chief came in and yelled at them at some point during the week.
He also said he has been studying a lot because they have to take a lot of tests.
I am already looking forward to next Wednesday!

There's been a lot of talk of sailors who don't finish bc because they can't pass the physicals. Here are some figures that Hoppi (works at GL base) posted on another PIR group today: Less than 23% of the American public qualify to join the USN, and less than 3% actually serve. Sometimes there are people who aren't qualified to serve, but who make it to bootcamp, but they won't finish bootcamp. Bootcamp isn't easy, it is meant to be that way, so yes - people do not make it though bootcamp. Better to find out in bootcamp than find out later, after they have been in for awhile.

It's direct and to the point, now lets' turn it into a positive: Our kids go through all kinds of physicals at MEPS before they even get to bc, so we know our kids passed that (many don't). While in bc, if there are ailments that come up, this can be a blessing in disguise - a lot of things can be corrected or fixed, then they move along and finish bc a bit later than others, but now they are healthier. If they are truly not able to pass the physical tests, then there's a reason for that - and you wouldn't want them to ignore those health issues and end up injurying your loved one for life! Unlike most employers we know, the US Navy is truly looking out for our kids. (well, okay - they are thinking of themselves, they want healthy sailors on those ships, but I like my glass half full, not half empty, so I see it my way - not theirs!)

This is a great group, I love how you are so open. I met a lot of people on this site, but there are a couple that I have made dear friends for life and we text and email each other, and facebook of course. I can't imagine life without them!

I just gave the newest PIR group my "slackers" speech, but I toned it down a little (their newer than you guys are), they just got their first letters today! So they have decided to write motivational one-liners now, so that their kids read them just about the time that stuff starts to happen. My son said one of the worst guys in his division turned out to be one of the best recruits - turned out, he had NO one who wrote him letters and didn't have much self esteem. When a few of them tried mentoring him, and shared their letters and pictures with him, all of a sudden it all turned around for this kid! I love happy endings.
