Saralee - you will be meeting me! I can't wait for the meet & greet. It'll be so exciting to meet everyone.

Jaz - please do let me know! I'm nervous about our division too... I'm hoping they do well. My best friend was in BC Feb - April and he only got 2 phone calls, and the first one he only got about 8 minutes to call everyone so it was really disappointing. I'm hoping everyone in the div is coming together too... I've written him alot and try to remind him to be part of the group and not get frustrated or go off on his own. Fingers are crossed for tomorrow...

cath- you're right... I plan to sit on the porch tomorrow and ambush him as soon as he steps up! haha

I got 2 letters today!! So very happy to finally hear from him. He said basically the same thing the others did but added he is enjoying the extra PT. His girlfriend also got letters and his father got one. I really can't wait for the PIR! We are staying at the Ramada and I'm hoping to meet a lot of you at the meet-n-greet there.

Christina waits - I am hoping tomorrow or Thurs as well. Reading some of the problems the other divisions are having makes me nervous. I hope our guys are hanging in there together and being strong for each other. I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

Some people in other groups seems to think it takes at least 3 weeks before any mail will come. This is only 2 weeks, so I'm really excited to hear that some of you are getting mail already! I'm really hoping to hear from my boyfriend tomorrow or Thursday... I'm like you, Jessica... really anxious. I'll just feel so much better when I hear from him that everything is going okay.

Anyone from ship 12 div 260 get mail yet??

I got 2 letters from my hubby today! Finally!! He said that there are a few "slackers" as you say Sobe, that are making it really difficult on the rest. They are not getting it and keep screwing around and everyone is paying for it. It does break my heart!! But I will pass along your advice, thanks!! He is homesick and I feel so bad for him :( He's almost halfway through, so he'll make it.

Sorry, did not mean to worry anyone. Don't forget this is very early and they have lots of time still! Everyone is doing lots of PT, and they'll get stronger and improve very quickly doing it consistently. Encourage them, they'll do just fine.

You all are such encouragement for me. I hope you don't mind that I use some of your phrases from here on his letters. It helps me think of ways of encouragement to my son. Sobe, I love that one you just put.

Oh my, I remember this part, when the letters start talking about the "slackers". There are some in every division, they just do the bare minimum and make life harder for everyone. It would break my heart (or make me mad) when I would get those letters. But here's the deal ladies, they need to be told (encouraged, whatever) to work WITH these guys to get them motivated to work as a team. And that's hard to do when your teed off at someone!

Teamwork is critical, they will not pass their final exercise if they don't work together. Somehow tell them that they need to help/mentor/motivate these guys, maybe even get in their face and yell (last resort) at these so called "slackers" to get the message across.

Each recruit is responsible for the recruits life who is sitting next to him. Plain and simple - and their RDC's are screaming at them to instill this in them, because they sink or swim together. They will be sailors soon, defending our country and they have to know who they can depend on - and that is that guy next to them - they must know what to do to, so it's up to everyone to help everyone. Wow - that was heavy, but it's so important. It can be a morale killer in divisions unless someone turns it around in a positive way (save the getting in your face idea as a last resort!). The person who is the slacker may not even know it, maybe they didn't grow up with parents who enstilled good worth ethics or maybe they never had to do chores. One kid we heard about was homeless, his parents gone and he was starving - so he joined the Navy. I bet he's very lonely and doesn't know how to react - he needs those other recruits to show him some compassion and encouragement.

Okay, getting off the soap box. It's only been 2 weeks since my son was in bc, so this is still close to home for me and still emotional too. Sorry!

And Susan and nnylear, from the brief couple of lines my husband squeezed on the bottom of his PIR packet, he did make it seem like there were some real idiots in his division, so it sounds like he's not the only one who has noticed. That's too bad that they all have to suffer just because they have guys in the division that don't want to follow rules :(

I'm sorry, what is PT and IT?
