Ellen: I am just a "helper" on this group, but I am sure someone will answer your question below! I was just going to share with you something I learned when my son was in bc: Girlfriend Trumps Mom every time! It's sad, but true. I lucked out though, I have a great friendship with his GF and we shared our letters and any news he gave when he called. If they ever break up, I'm keeping her and will think about keeping him!!! lol...

I went to Hobby Lobby and Jo Ann's to find ribbon supplies yesterday. Well, it wasn't quite as easy as I thought it would be. First, there was the problem of locating navy ribbon. Now you wouldn't think this would be a big deal, but I kept finding every color except navy blue. Next, there was the decision of which size to get. I went with the half inch ribbon because anything smaller seemed impossible to get letters for. Letters -- another delima. Do we use stick on, rub on, and what color? I couldn't find any gold or silver letters except for glitter letters and my husband did not want anything terribly glittery. I went with white because that was the only thing that looked like it would show up on navy ribbon. I found star brads (small, metal, silver-like, not glittery). I found 1 anchor charm after going to several stores. I have two on hold in another close-by town - $1.49 at Hobby Lobby if you can find them there.

Well, I gathered the materials together, came home and started putting one together. At the top, where my ribbon crosses, i just put one star brad which keeps the ribbon together. I have decided that I don't know that the anchor charm is really needed. My white letters look pretty good, I think, but I discovered that the package of letters that I bought doesn't have enough letters in it to even make 2 ribbons, so this can get expensive. I'm considering tulip fabric paint. Also my package of letters does not contain numbers.

I said all of that to say this. I have a spool of 1/2 inch navy blue ribbon that has plenty to make other ribbons. I also have about 20 star brads. I am going to bring the ribbon, stars, and fabric paint to the meet-n-greet. We can whip up inexspensive ribbons for those who do not have one. They may not be just like 7/23/10's ribbons, but they look pretty good. In the end, its really not going to matter much. We will be able to identify each other, they make great name tags, and it is something that we can put in my daughters new Navy scrapbook.

I'm making ribbons for anyone that wants them, they're shape of the breast cancer awarness ribbon. I'm using dark navy blue ribbon and putting the last name of the sailor on one side and the division on the other side, they are a pin on ribbon, just let me know if you'd like me to make you one.

Girls, what kind of ribbons are we talking about exactly? Can someone upload a picture so I can see? That way I can make mine look similar? Sorry if that seems like a stupid question, I just want to make sure I'm on the same page as everyone else! Thank you!

My son is on Ship 6 Div 937 and I was just wondering if anyone knows when their battlestations are. I haven't even spoken to my son since he's been gone. He was allowed one phone call on June 24 and he called his girlfriend! Does anyone know how the division is progressing? I haven't received a letter in a week.

Green shirts are fine. Can't wait. Got letters today and he is really looking forward to the end. See you all soon.

No I don't. His Recruiter back home said he was probably staying at Great Lakes. I wonder because I've been reading that so many are going some place else.

My husband is in div 254, and they were told by their Chief that the whole div was G&G, so that's where I got my info from...

Is Div 256 wearing a color or ribbon? haven't seen it or maybe i missed it. Also, how do we know if they are G & G? Danny is not a writer and he didn't have long to talk Saturday.

And thank you for the idea. I was looking for something special to give my son. Grandma giving him a watch. lol
