I hate pictures like that I am so sorry for the family, I will keep them in my prays and thoughts. Breaks my heart!
Marcy, my son was on Capo also it is a small base for sure. Support Side is for families they have the schools and a bigger NEX, play grounds it is really nice over there. My son used minutes from skype on his phone he found that to be the cheapest and once the minutes are up they are up and then you can put on more minutes. Hope that helps.
Carrie, I am so excited for you to go and see Amber, how is she doing? Don't forget I want to see a lot of pictures.
Hi Pam how are you? Is Jamie excited about leaving Italy? Yes the Navy does have their own mind don't they, you just never know.
Marcy - Carrie might be able to answer better, but Capo is the smaller base and support side is the large, full scale base. I'm not sure how far apart the two are. My son is on Capo. and works in the clinic there.
Jamie will be attached to the 3rd Division in Hawaii. Well, that is the plan as of right now, but a lot can happen between now and the end of the year! How is Amber coming along? Everything is well I hope!
Hi Carrie, you & I are going to have to get together for coffee one of these days!
Don't even know what "Capo or support side" means lol Guess I have a lot to learn all over again! Do they have to pay for internet access?
Welcome to the group Marcy. My son has been in Naples since the end of 2010. His tour is up at the end of this year. I just talked to him this morning and asked him if he has his cell phone back (he lost it a couple months ago) and he just laughed and said no that it wasn't that imporant like it is in the States. Now this is a 22 year old that didn't do anything without his cell phone a couple years ago!! He uses magic jack and skype and has an iTouch that he can text from as long as he has internet which he does have in his room. He also communicates a lot using Facebook. We're all in vaious time frames of being over there, so just shout if you have any questions! Will he be at the Capo side or support side?
Donna - my son is a Corpsman and has never deployed. That, however, is going to change since he will be attached to a Marine Unit next.
Thanks Sheryl so much for the advice, passing it on :) Happy to know you're an active group, makes it fun!
Hi group, hi Sharon! My corpsman is due to arrive in Naples next month. So happy for him, and so glad to have this group! I have tons of questions and will start searching what you all have posted. What's the best solution to cell phone/iPhone? Any advice to him on what to take at the outset other than the basics?
Hey Debbie! How is Stephen doing? Enjoying civilian life? I bet you're enjoying seeing him more often!
Donna - I ordered a case of the large military flat rate boxes dircetly from the U.S. Post Office website. They were labeled in such a way that the address fits perfectly and it says a nice little thank you on the box for serving the country. I send packages priority and they usually arrive within 7 days. I think it's $15 now for the flat rate box. He once told us that if you send regular mail, it will arrive at the military post office and sit there until one of the containers is completely full before it's sent over. At least with priority, it gets put on a plane! I have gone in debt though sending packages, I will say that much. But they appreciate the little taste of home. When he first went over, I would send a box for every holiday, with that holiday theme. Loved doing the Valentine's and Easter boxes. I've gotten away from doing that this year, but he did get the Valentine's one and he was home for Easter!
