I'm glad to find this group. I spoke with my son for the last time tonite before he flies to Naples tomorrow. I can't believe that he is going to be so far away and that I won't be able to see him for 2 years. I am hoping that my daughter and I will be able to go visit him in the summer of 2013. That will be a good high school graduation present for her.
Sheryl - I had a great time in Chicago! I can't believe you still have snow up there! We have been in the 80's since the first part of March here. It did get cold on my last day in Chicago. Needless to say, I get off the plane in Atlanta with a sweatshirt and jacket! Which of course, made my husband and daughter laugh because they're in shorts and t-shirts. The nerve of them! Looking forward to seeing my son in a couple days. It has been way too long!
Rachel's Mom - Jamie hits his two year mark in the Navy on April 13.
Adele - tell Drew to hang in there. Once he makes friends, he'll start traveling. My son has seen some amazing things since he's been there.
Adele - that is so heartbreaking.. It will take some time to adjust and learn his way around. My son left for Italy right after A School and eight weeks of training in San Diego. Very hard having them so far away. We have kept an eye on airfare and although it was not in our budget at this time to visit him, he will be home soon for the first time in 15 months. It was cheaper for us to help pay his way home! I often wonder how many make the military their career choice and move from place to place. Good luck to your son and like Debbie said, keep sending care packages, letters, cards - anything that will be a pick me up for him!
Adele we are here for you and we all understand. You were so lucky that you got to see him so much, count your blessings. Now just think about all the wonderful places your son is going to see. Just think of all of the gift he should be buying you, lolololol This will give you a chance to travel to see him. I have cried many tears over my son being so far away, it got easier. Skype was a life saver for me. I had my computer on all the time and could not wait for skype to go off. lol Try not to be too sad. Stephen is good thanks for asking. Is your son going to be a lifer?
