Son called he will not start school until after the first of the year. Now they say the 3rd.  We will see if it changes. It will be sad not having him home for christmas. I am sure it will not be the last.

Laura, even after A School, your Sailor will most likely still be MASR for several months unless E2 (MASA) or E3 (MASN) was earned after bootcamp due to having had college or other things that would have permitted them to advance sooner.  They have exams in March and September to advance and would advance in June (I think) and November depending on their scores and the number of openings available.  I hope that helps.

Hey Marti mom...my son has a friend that joined him this past Monday. He pir on 12/3. Your son maybe there and just havent gotten to a phone to call. He should ask someone to use theirs. They are every where. My son is due to start on 12/13 and arrived on Dec 1st (I think). He is with Laurie's group. Laurie youre right to accept his choices...my son appears to be very happy. We just never know what's their best because we want our BEST for them. I'm trying to learn this with my daughter. First year in college and wants to change from a four year to a 2 year college. On some days she decides that she will just work a semester than go back...I'm trying to remain open because as parents we know you should never sit out if possible...most often it's so hard to go back. I'm having my son keep encouraging her...I'm sure she's missing him and that has a lot to do with his confusion....

Just be patient. My son PIR was 11/24. He shipped to SA 12-1. He is waiting to start class 12-13. He says they only take 50 or so per class and there is 100 or so waiting to start. I know it is hard to wait. My son is Navy Reserve and had a scholarship to run track starting in Jan. with spring semester. Due to being held for processing for bc and now holding a few weeks for A school, he will miss college for spring and his track scholarship. We knew he would be cutting it close when he didn't have a ship date until Sept 27th. I was upset for him as the processing days slipped by and now more delays. However, he has reassured me that he is very happy and knows that the Navy is where he is supposed to be. It is hard to turn over my dreams for my son to him and let him go chase his. He says he will just start college in the fall and may transfer to another college to be closer to his serious girlfriend. I have determined that rushing through life just to get to the next step and not enjoying the current place I am in causes me to miss so many things. I want him to be happy. He says he is and I can't ask for more for my kid.

My son is going to heading to SA sometime. Our PIR was last Friday 12/3/2010. When we left him Sunday he still did not know when he was leaving. They kept giving different dates. Now waiting to hear from him on when. I know he would like to get going.
