Ashley - the base will be shut down for around six to nine days, however, just as any "newbie" starting a job, I believe first, they have to build up time to be allowed leave and second, it's first come, first served. My son is not planning to be home for either holiday ... so we're celebrating Christmas in January, when he comes home.

Ashley, I don't remember - but. . . . there are about 280+ pages here. Try jumping WAY back to last year about this time and read.
I sure hope so. My MA will not be home for his fourth Christmas in a row this year.

I have a question for all of y'all... My boyfriend is graduating Boot Camp 12/3 and he is a G&G to San Antonio... I was wondering if y'all know how long he will get to come home for Christmas?

ha - I didn't really help much - but was in a hurry. I baked about 24 pies in jars today to send to deployed guys!

I do live in Texas - about 5 hours from San Antonio - if you need a place to stop on the way over!

Joshuas PROUD mom, when I visited my husband in A School, I stayed in the Gateway hotels on Lackland AFB. They are all named Gateway. The first time I visited I stayed at the Gateway Villa, and the other times were at the Gateway Lodge. There are a few, and it just depends on whats available as to where they put you. Your son can go and make the reservation for you I believe, and it was 30 dollars or under a night.

Joshua's PROUD mom! There have been several conversations about where to stay and what to do in San Antonio. I suggest just keep "lurking" - but go backwards!

Hey y'all - I've been kind of "lurking" here, reading comments ...

My son got the OC spray, today. He said he started to panic a bit at first, but then got himself calmed down and made it through. YAY!

I know there isn't a Navy Lodge in SA, but does anyone know of any other military hotel/motel that may be in the area? We're planning to go to Josh's graduation on January 7, if weather and finances allow.

Thanks Donnita. I will check them out. I have been talking to my husband and he says you dont need to come its not nothing big. But I dont want to miss nothing and want pictures of everything to make a scrapbook of this journey. So I will probably end up going and just surprise him. LOL. But how long was he in A school for did he get his orders? Any advice I can relay to him from your husband. He starts classes on Monday the 15th. Thanks for your info.
