My daughter is at SA right now and can't wait to retest on the 9mm....she got Marksman at BC but wasn't satified so we shall see what she does at A school...Nuclear stuff that is kindof scary for a mom to think about ...but whatever she choses or gets I'll support her 150% and worry later!

My daughter leaves for BC on 5 April 2011, and after that she goes to "A" School in San Antonio. She is MA. She is very excited! Nice to see positive comments here.

I just went and spent the day with my daughter yesterday at A school...she arrived their on Tues....it was so nice to wake up this morning to a text message from her saying "good morning momma"....I love the more laid back aspect of A school versus BC....She is excited and eager to learn her job and is looking forward to being OC'd this coming Friday...they had to have several to volunteer to be set back a week because they had to many to class up...she wasn't one that volunteered but said later that maybe she should have and that way she wouldnt burn leave time for Christmas being that at this point she will grad on Dec. 10th......This sight as well as the whole N4M's has helped me greatly and she is so impressed that I know as much as I do...thank you to all that give us newbies the information we need to get thru these times....God Bless you and yours!

Hurley18~thx much for the insight! I figured there was no definate answer... as to when Richard my son would be sent to A school. Just thought I would try. My son's recruiter told us Richard would leave for A school the Monday following his PIR. I am not sure how he knew this however... guess?!?

Tylers mom~LOL... I guarantee you I know more then my son at this point! I hope and pray he steps up his game and pays attention. Maybe I am the only one with a child at boot camp who has always taken life as it comes... no preplanning, no worries! I assumed the planning and worrying for him I guess.

It all depends on when they leave for "A" school after BC. Can't count on anything. My son was lucky to start "A" school that following monday but some stay on holding until 2 weeks and it's not unusual for your sailor to be set back on holding due to an injury or test failure. It's pretty common so don't freak out if it happens. Unlike BC it is much more relaxed. They still get yelled at but it's usually as a whole and they really hate to let their instuctors and fellow ship mates down. Please stress that just because it's more relaxed they still need to keep the order, in their rooms and they need to never miss a muster never get complacent. My son calls me three times a day because he can. They get to go off base on weekends after they pass OC spray but have to wear their peanut butters. In phase 2 they can wear their civilian clothes off base and phase 3 they can stay over night on the weekend. This applies if they do not have to do duty otherwise they cant go off base nor can they drink(phase 2). It's a lot like collage just make sure your sailor keeps their grades up, it's all about the GPA for base assignment. My sons class were not offered any overseas bases but the class after his did so you never know and like BrendaSue said they can still go overseas but come back. It depends on what the Navy needs at that time and it can change at the drop of the hat so always expect the unexpected. Good luck

Hello everyone... I am new on here also. I have been reading the posts and learned alot. (Good to see you on here Tylers mom!)

My son left for BC on Oct 6th. He will be gone 3 weeks this Wed. Does anyone know how long after BC PIR he will have before he leaves for A school? Or is it always different?
Comment by Bobbie (Chris' mom)-MAA mom on October 24, 2010 at 12:15pm
a-school is 7 weeks

Just because he is stationed stateside doesn't mean he won't get to see the world. My son is stationed in Virginia - but has spent many months in many other countries. I think it is better because they are only deployed for 6 - 8 months and then get to come home. If they are stationed in other countries, they have to pay to come home if they come home on leave.
