Hi mk95980 my son got stationed on Coronado island after A school GL. HE WILL HAVE A SPONSOR before he leaves A school. That sponsor will give him all instructions. If he has alot of personal things he may not be able to take it all. My son gave his dishes, tv to 5he others and asked to pass it forward. Totally up to him. Good luck to your son
Hi Moms,
My son just got orders to San Diego after he finishes A school at GL. Anyone have any insight on what to expect there - now as well as during "normal" times? What's life like for an E3 there? He'll arrive there mid-summer.
Thanks and have a lovely weekend!
Welcome Sunrise, so Glad your Son is on Coronado it is a very nice base. The Barracks look like apts. 4 guys to a room two bedroom kitchen small living room. He will Love it! My Son just moved out of his Barracks and moved on to the carrier as they went out to Sea. Best wishes to your Sailor!
hi SD moms - son is enjoying navy life in SD, Coronado. Nice to find a group of Moms with SD in common. Go Navy!
From my understanding the 'Big Stick' will be heading to WA end of next year, changing ports. So new ships coming to SD.
Hi Oleandar so good to see you post!
Hi Ladies my Son is on Coronado island and is on the USS THEODORE CARRIER. Has. Been there for 2 yrs. He loves it! When they are on ship they will sign for housing before porting, but he still may have to sleep on carrier until barracks are available. At least that is what my son had to do. The Barracks look like an apartment complex, 4 to a room. Has small living room kitchen and 2 bedrooms, 2 to a room. I have a picture on my page if what they look like. Really nice base. My son usually takes Uber/lyft to get around or with friends who have cars. There is a place called liberty station where they like to go, and many malls and restaurants.
Well I can tell you this about my son. He is assigned to the USS Bonhomme Richard with is in port in SD for refitting...he arrived in SD back in March 2019 and had to live on the barge until a barracks room opened up which finally did the first week in October...a pretty long wait. I'm not sure if he will be living on the ship....but if he doesnt have to...it is usually a long wait for a barracks room.
Your message came through my email this morning, I am not sure how often people respond to messages here. I have had better luck with the FB pages below. My daughter has been in the Navy for 5 years and most of her time in SD. However not on a ship. I hope this is helpful.

Eventually my son will be in San Diego. Whenever the Navy decides the Lincoln can leave the Middle East. Can anyone give me an idea of what his living situation will be like since he is assigned to the carrier? Will he be living on the carrier while in port in San Diego, eating there, have time off, etc? There is plenty of info about living on the ship while on deployment but not a lot about while they are in port.
Can't wait to hear what everyone has learned from their sailors!
