The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

I would tell him to have the money taken out. It was my daughter you were reading about... lol  She did have someother mishaps, not that it will happen to your boy. Trust me, it is a fluke and not to be expected to be duplicated I am sure.

SeabeeWife- I spoke with Kayla and she seems better today, well about "that". On the phone with her now.

ktssong-during ECS they are offered either cash to buy their food or they have a meal deduction out of their pay check. a lot of them choose the cash and then forget that they only get that amount and nothing more when it comes to purchasing food....of course they still get their pay, however, between other financial debts, food, and maybe gas if they have a car and of course "fun money" that money runs out quick. i suggest telling your bee to get the money taken out of his check that way he knows he can go to the galley and get food every day. they ask them as soon as they arrive at ECS so he have this explained in more depth.

my personal advice is to let your bee learn all these things as he comes upon them. the only reason i say this is because every persons experiences are different and what may be true for one person may not be for another. if you give your bee information that you've heard basically third person (there aren't many people on here who have actually been through all these things and can only give third party advice) he may start confusing things you're telling him with things that his command is telling him. The ladies and gentleman in charge at ECS and every other command will make sure he has everything he needs.....if for some reason he comes into a financial hardship he can always go to the Navy Marine Corp Relief Society and get help. I promise your bee will be okay if he listens to what his options are and think about things before he makes a decision. They won't leave him hanging out to dry....and if there is something he needs in the mean time I may be able to help him out if you need me to! I know it's hard to not know what to expect for your bee as he goes through this journey....it was for me too!

When they get to ECS, do they pay for all their meals on their own?  I was reading some comments on Ohio Moms group and tried to understand what they are talking about some misunderstandings that the new ones had coming in.  Does this question make sense?  Is there something new Seabees coming into ECS need to know about their finanaces that may be a little unclear?

My son is driving to his next station from home and we are getting a trip tic from AAA and also putting the address in his GPS since he's driving alone.  Is there a link that has all the Navy Port addresses?  I don't want to say where he's going but would like to know if someone can tell me where to locate the address to a specific US one.  Is that possible to find out?

Tobi-I talked to Kayla tonight too. There are lots of errors happening with pay right now. We are having issues too with ours because things were supposed to be stopped for about 2 months and then started again shortly after.....none of that has taken affect and now we will have large amounts taken out. Hubby talked to someone in accounting and they explained everything to him but there was one issue that wasn't understood and he was looking in to it. It is frustrating because at any given moment we may not get a pay check. The advice I've been given is "don't spend the money, set it aside so when they do take it you have it to pay your bills" my only issue is....what if you don't realize there's a difference?? Ours were small amounts over time that added up so we had no idea that we were getting wrong amounts because pay never really differed. I hope Kayla gets things figured out soon in the mean time have her go to the Navy Marine Corp Relief Society to get some help financially.

same thing was told to me when she passed out face first from where this mess originated.

I will wait and go to my other sites. I really came here for support and not to feel as I WAS doing something wrong. I am so sorry. I know understand why my daughter said to stop reading this. She says all the info on her is so wrong and that many get concered.

I hope all have a great night. I will be awake again worried about my child, my flesh and blood. This no one can say is not my place.

And she did speak to them! They said someone messed up, nothing we can do" . Nice huh.

ok ladies,  need some help here.  I need the ombudsman for PH. I am losing my mind and Kayla is freaking out. ECS was a time with no pay for food, no one explained much and she chose BAS, not rations inkind. Again not well explained. She got this money after getting to PH. Now they want this money back, and they are taking it in LARGE amounts. I am so pissed I can not see right. They never told her, just took this out of her pay. she can not pay her bills and live with what is left. Who do I go to????

I received 2 emails advertising from the Bettie Jones this evening as well. Earlier I was unable to get the other groups on Internet Explorer-this was the only group I could get.
