OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Hi ladies, I was wondering if anybody knows of that airport where our troops land and there are volunteers waiting to greet them. Its usually the first place they land when they come stateside from deployment. There is a website for this and they take pics of all our sons and daughters that come through there. Help!!

God is good! ... had to share this story with you all!

I had a last minute thought to have a "Welcome Home" banner printed for the house (why I hadn't thought of this sooner, I could not tell you! LOL!)... I called our local Kinkos.  The person who answered the phone is a young man who has been in the Navy for 13 years now.  He went reserve status a few years back, but is now ready to go back to fully enlisted status.  Well... he is a SeaBee himself, and had also graduated A-school top of his class!  He knew exactly what I was talking about ("Triple Crow") as that too was his accomplishment!  Since my day is full of meetings at work, he did me the favor of creating the banner for me, with a SeaBee pic and the Navy emblem!!!  Wow!  Fantastic job!  I am so grateful!  ;o)

Thanks very much, everyone!  The hunt for pics is still underway, but more importantly, my girl is on her way home!  Can hardly wait to pick her up at the airport later tonight!!

Okay SeaBee Moms ... Is there a web or facebook site where pics are posted of those graduating with honors from Gulfport?  My daughter will be graduating tomorrow morning [Top of her class!!! "Turbo Crow"??] and unfortunately, I will not be there for the ceremony ... I am sooooo bummed right now! :'(  I know the command at Great Lakes has a FB page and posts pics of the ceremony, but haven't been able to find any for Gulfport.  Any help is so very much appreciated!  Thanks much my Seabee family!  ;o)

Denise, that may have to be the night we have dinner then.  I am anxious to meet them.  Shoot, I am just anxious to get out of MI and into some warmer weather.

Denise - that is awesome that they are coming home.  I didn't know they had a kid, just the dogs.  Steven says they can't come home in June because of classes.  Maybe it is because of different ranks.

I am sorry that I will miss meeting your son.  I will make sure to go see Jackie.  Maybe I will have to have her over to his place when I make dinner since he is   always being invited over there.  Steven likes Jackie.  He says he gets picked on a lot whenever he goes over there and that really helps him feel at home.

yep mom2nw, we go the distance for your military.  I hope you have safe travels and enjoy that time there.  I hear we will all have beautiful weather while there.  Denise we plan on arriving there on the 20th and leaving the 27th.  Taking a couple of days to sightsee on the way there and back.
