The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Kym we will have to collaborate. I am now not sure if I will get to Ca (when she gets there) to see her. She is talking about coming home with the new bo, and as much as I love that, I was looking forward to getting out of Ohio for a few days...

LOL...kym I don't think their is a "right" with this. I'm just going to leave everything as is and when it becomes a problem deal with it then. Happy 21st to your son! I hope he has a fun and safe birthday :-)

Well I did a little more research today on the licensing and registration issue. I'm starting to get frustrated with the MS websites, because they have about four different websites that all give different info. The MS Department of Public Safety is in charge of licensing and this is what their website said:
DPS policy permits non-resident military personnel and their family, and any out of state college students to drive in Mississippi provided they hold a valid driver’s license from another state.

The website for the MS Vehicle registration gives information for military members, but only to those with a home of residency in MS. They say nothing about non-resident military. The problem for my husband and I is we bought a vehicle here in Texas, because mine died on me. So now we have California ID's and Texas plates. It doesn't matter where you register your vehicle, but it becomes confusing when you have different states for everything :-/

I guess we will either change everything to MS or leave it as is. Out of a the things that could be hard and confusing this is the only one that has me stumped. Everything else is a breeze LOL! Thanks for the help ladies :-)

Ok, I called and spoke with the Captain of licensing this afternoon. He told me that military families who live off base are required to change their driver's license within 60 days and their plates within 30 days. He said if I were to live on base I wouldn't have to. However, the judges see that when you live off base you are setting up residency in the state of MS and need to change everything. It doesnt make much sense to me to have to change everything every time you move to a different state, but rules are rules and I'm not getting a ticket over something so silly.

Halfofawhole: I have heard about the Military Spouse Relief Act, but I thought that only dealt with issues on taxes? I may need to go read about it. But if it's a new law they are supposed to follow, MS doesn't know about it, or the people I spoke with today don't.

I have a question for anyone stationed in Gulfport--I know there's a forum for Gulfport but it doesn't seem to see much attention. So, I am reading info on the CNIC NCBC Gulfport website about drivers license and registration for MS and it says I need to get a MS license within 60 days and register my vehicle. I am curious if this is actually true, or if those enlisted in the military are exempt from this rule? If anyone has the answer that would be great....if not I'll find out when I get there and let all of you know for future reference :-)

Any moms of Jan 21 PIR grads going to Gulfport out there??  I was at the USO in Gulfport yesterday afternoon (mentoring so I can volunteer) and a group of six new sailors came in.  They were only there about 30 minutes before the duty van came and picked them up.  They were all hungry - said they left from Great Lakes, then layover in Atlanta they to Gpt.  The duty driver said chow was going to be in 30 minutes so they needed to head out.  It was a neat experience - all lf them looked so good and all so polite.  I am looking forward to getting a regular time to volunteer.

yeah didn't she fall into a room or something like that? ewwwww nope not me. They know they can rely on each other and of course the trusty flashlight can do some damage...

She would tell me stories of the rovers with the different guys. I would always ask, you were not scared? naw, my brothers would never let anything happen to me, and I would not allow anything to happen to them. Gotta love family.

She is one of the guys, she says they do not really treat me any different. So for this I love them.

Tobianne: He really is a great husband....I couldn't have asked for anyone better. He treats me like a queen and I'm the one who is lucky! He doesn't expect much from me, but I expect it of myself. I feel like a bad wife when I don't cook and clean for him. Guess it's because my grandmother instilled it in my brain that it's my job to take care of my man lol.

As for the group here--they truly are great guys. I can imagine she feels a little lonely down there right now. Once you build a bond with people it's hard to break it. They have all been together for roughly three months and there's not much to do here, so you really do get to know everyone well.

Their rover pictures still haunt me. I'm deathly afraid of spiders and those were just disgusting. I also enjoy the stories of doors being unlocked and open when no one uses them. I definitely wouldn't have the guts to go in a room and check it out the way they did lol.

Manda- your husband better treat you right.... He sure got a better wife than I have ever been in 22 yrs of marriage! lol

I may bake a cake for him once a year (maybe) cookies I do, cinnie rolls a lot. But you girl are a gem.

Kayla was at the retiremen home today (they send the sick Seabee's there for work I think consist of chatting with the veterans) took pics of the beach and then later went over and took a few more right on the beach.

She misses your hubby. She said when you get to know someone, and then have to leave it sucks. She said her fav was rover with him. She can not wait until they all get there. Must have been a fun group there.
