For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!
Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Hi Seabee moms, my son could not have his car during A school (in California), but we were able to ship it to him once he arrived in Gulfport. It is not registered or insured in his name, it is still in my name and insured on my policy, we had no problems with that. He also said taxi's were ridiculously expensive in Gulfport, and although he did get rides with other sailors, he didn't like having to go only where they wanted to eat etc. so we had his car shipped to him, and when he was deployed from there to Iraq, he put the car in storage in Gulfport. They can keep their home state tags because they are not permanent residents of "Mississippi", but considered residents of their home base.
Just my 2 cents worth hope it helps.

It's hotter here, but our humidity is much lower than most places . . . so the heat isn't quite so killing. Plus we're just under 5k feet in elevation. That seems to help too.

I'm from OC originally . . . you won't mind if I ask how the Angels are doing... since I grew up 10 miles from Angel stadium... no baseball teams in Utah except minor league, but they are a feeder team for the Angels . . .

My son did A school in port h. He was so disappointed that he wasn't assigned to a battalion that is stationed out of port h. he loved it there. He's had a much harder time adjusting to Gulfport... too humid, too beat up, and not much for a Utah snowboarder to do in his time off. At least at Port H, he could swim. Gulfport doesn't have a functioning pool on the base and the beaches are still torn up from the hurricanes and not fit for bare feet.

I'm not offended. But at 125 degrees, stinking burning dead camels on the sides of the road, population hooked on qat, extreme poverty, and calling a shipping carton a barracks . . . well, I can see why he's miserable. It doesn't help that it's 20 miles from the Somalian border. While I'm glad he's in less danger, I think he'd take a little action over being stuck where he is.
