For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!
Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Meganbbygurl- The Navy will not pay to move you to any TAD stations. They will only pay for you to move to his permanent duty station. That said- You can always go out there and rent a place short term until he gets his orders.

siera1, my son is also an EO stationed in Gulfport. He has been there for a year now. Still waiting to hear about deployment, he just finished FTX

I would suggest that he go on line and look at the Navy Life newsletter. It is sent out weekly and has lots of things to do. navylifesw.com/sandiego. My bee got married in January but still keeps track of things going on through this newletter. He is involved in the softball and football leagues. Be careful buying a car. My bee discovered that they like to take advantage of the military. Hope things continue to get better for him.

Mama Bear- I'm sorry your daughter is ill and that the orders given by her Dr are not being followed. Sadly we no longer have a say in their lives and care. She needs to call the Dr who did the Tap and have him call her command. She should also have gone to sick call and shared this info. Often with the Military in general the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I'm sure there are other pages where you might get a better answer than here though.

I am upset I feel my daughter health is being played with by the Navy and they just don't care. She is sick and yesterday she had a spinal tap by an Airforce doctor. She was told to go home and lay flat in bed for 3 days. Yet this isn't good enough, the Navy has made her come into work today, they are putting her life at danger. I had a spinal tap, and that is the same orders that my doctor said to do, reason being the pressure that builds in your head can explode and you could have a stroke, be mentally chancellage the rest of your life, being in a coma or worst yet death. I can't sit by a watch my daughter suffer. She has asked repeatly to be seen by a neurologist and finally when they allow her, the orders that was given can't be follow. I need help, they are playing with my daughter life, I need to know where I can turn to get some answers. My daughter has served her country and will continue to serve her country with pride but at the moment she isn't well Please help my daughter and myself by helping me find out why the Navy is treating her like she doesn't matter.

Had a wedding yesterday with my Marine getting married and my Seabee "attending" via facetime. Thank heavens for technology and time differences! He even had a spot in the groomsmen line between his other two brothers (fire-medic and soldier)!

I haven't been on here for awhile. I've missed being here. I am about to fly to Gulfport to visit my son. I will be there the week of Sept 20-27/ Is anyone from the area and if you are do you know of anything going on that would be interesting to go to? We go somewhere different every visit. This visit and my one at Thanksgiving are my last two times to see him before he leaves for his third deployment. This one will be the roughest yet for him I think because his first baby is being born First week of December and then not long after he deploys. My heart is breaking for them but we knew this would be the military life. I'm going to keep up the support now and during and continuing to keep his family strong. We've made it this far together as a family support so I'm sure we will get him and his wife through this one. Glad to see alot of activity on here. I'm having to get back in here because it just makes a huge difference to be near moms who understand all our concerns. Love all.

Hold there may be a bit different but I don't think so. SoCal is beautiful and Southwest is the best deal to fly out there too. If you do go don't forget to check out other airports. If you are renting a car it may be worth the savings to look into flying into San Diego, Burbank, Ontario or Orange County. They are all easier to get in and out of than LAX. Congratulations and welcome to the Bees!!
