For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!
Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

Belovedbyhim, thanks for being so honest. That will be a good heads up for my son that he might not be doing as much actual welding as he was hoping. So your son's job rate doesn't include pouring concrete but they taught him how to do that anyway? How often and for how long would you say he's deployed? (and while my son's recruiter suggested, "Hey, if you did underwater welding you could hook up with the SEALS," my son was quick to remind him that he's color blind. So I don't think we'll have to worry about special forces and SERE!

Catsandkoi-- Good for you!! As a new mom learning where to look for the answers will save you tons of grief!! Most Bee's will not unless they are with a special forces assignment. (I think it's like less than 5% who ever do that) When they are at base they do trainings, stand watch, work on projects, hang out and shoot the breeze. My Bee feels like it's not near as much as he'd like but there are rules about what they can and cannot do as far as maintenance on the bases. Most of that work goes to civilian contractors who do the work! (that our bees are trained/training to do!) Honestly, he was disappointed in his choice. He feels that he just sits around doing nothing and then when he does get a job it's to pour concrete! He's sorry he extended his contract and is looking to see if he can get out.

Catsandkoi-- When you write or talk to your SR tell him not to stress!! The navy will never near drown someone they just put all the time and money into training and CS gas is CS gas. He will get a taste of it at BC. Yes it is not fun but not fatal either!! My Bee would not give any details because they are not allowed to but my guess is someone is trying to scare him and others along the way. For the record SERE School is way Worse than anything short of actual war!! 90% of the time my bee is waiting on supplies or orders or both!!

Hi belovedbyhim, question for your seabee. I got to talk to my son from boot camp today. He is stressing about the ECS. He's heard that #1, they have to near drown you in one of the exercises? and #2, they have to expose you to some super horrible tear gas which is supposed to be incredibly painful. When you have a chance, can you ask him about that? And to maybe give you a little summary of what ECS is like and how hard it is? Thanks!

So. I am sitting here with my Bee and they will not do C school till they are an E4-E5. ECS is 4 weeks and may or may not happen after A school. They should be able to get time off for Christmas from A school, after A school and before reporting to their first duty station.

Catsandkoi-- Maybe. They sometimes go to ECS first sometimes they go later. There is no defined order or timing. Needs of MaNavy.
