The Ten OPSEC and COMSEC Points:

Don't discuss future destinations or ports of call!
Don't discuss future operations or missions!
Don't discuss dates and times of when we will be in port or conducting exercises!
Don't discuss readiness issues and numbers!
Don't discuss specific training equipment!
Don't discuss people's names and billets in conjunction with operations!
Don't speculate about future operations!
Don't spread rumors about operations!
Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!

Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

@sherrys No he isn't there yet. He is still in A school. He graduates May 11. But after he graduates A school he is doing FMTB training which is like 2 mos long in San Diego. And then he will be in Port Hueneme. Like around late September of this year.

There is a SeaBee Facebook page for Navy Moms you can join.  I don't know if there is one for the wives that is separate.  You just have to be aware that your info can be seen.  Here you are NavyWife95, on FB your real name is visible so make sure you practice OPSEC and PERSEC in your posts.

Is there a Facebook group page I can join for this group?

Inw0nderland... My daughter has been stationed at Port Hueneme for the past few years (we live in the area) and a co-worker of mine is an E7 (Navy Reserves) there. It's a good base, lots to do on and off base.

I just noticed that your message was posted a month ago... Is your guy there already? If so, how is he liking it so far?

Buffie67... I'm sooo sorry to hear this happen to yet another... My daughter was told a similar version, and it suddenly changed when she signed the contract at MEPS. Was told the policy had changed and they "just" heard about it...arrrgh. The recruiter wasn't in So. Cal. by chance, was he?

It does give recruiters a very bad reputation. I have, however, heard stories about some really great recruiters...we were just not fortunate enough to find one of them in our area at the time.

I am very upset. When my son enlisted his recruiter told him and myself that he would get a sign on bonus payable 1/2 after A school and the other half broken up in payments over a year. Now we just found out that this is not the case and he is not getting a sign on bonus. It really gives recruiters a bad reputation when they mislead young individuals.

Hi Denise.  My son is in BC now, PIR 5/1.  Then he will be headed to Gulfport, MS.

My boyfriend is in A school and he just got his orders to work in a clinic as a hospital corpsman in Port Hueneme. Is anyone else's son, husband, boyfriend stationed there? I'd like to know more about the base and all it has to offer? Thank you <3

Meganbbygurl, I was lucky enough to get to vacation in San Diego for 16 years curtsey of the US Navy!! You'll LOVE it there!! We lived in the North end of Spring Valley, Clairemont  Mesa and finally bought a house in Santee.  If you need/want Navy housing call and get on the list NOW! We never got offered a spot in the 6 years we rented.  Santee is Very family friendly.  It is about 20-45 minutes to base depending on which base he is on.  I'd be happy to tell you anything you want to know!  I loved it there and miss it a ton!  Santee is also 20 minutes to the beach, mountains and Mexico.

Hi Meganbbygurl,

Welcome to San Diego! There are many great neighborhoods in the area (Clairemont, Pacific Beach, La Mesa, Serra Mesa, Tierrasanta ) and some are military housing.  The neighborhood near the base (32nd street) is not the greatest, but Serra Mesa, Pacific Beach, Mira Mesa and Point Loma are better. Clairemont is a family friendly area, but I'm not sure if there is a designated military housing area there. I googled military housing in San Diego and came up with these three:

http://lincolnmilitary.com/

https://www.ahrn.com/navalbasesandiego.php

http://sandiegonavalhousing.com/

Hope this helps!
