Amber,

My son left the same night as PIR around 2 in the morning, but it can very with each class.  It depends how many they have flying out and it's on the navy schedule. When he got to Groton he waited about a week for enough guys to class up for BESS.  I think that was  about 4 weeks and then he had techno and something else.  Can't believe I've forgotten. At some point in the training he was given his rate.  He wanted Navigation, but on the first day of school they pulled him out and put him in Sonar.  He then was in school  until almost a year after enlistment.  The training never ends in the Navy. Read the avatars to the right in the sub moms section.  It gives so much information as well as joining the Groton group.

what do you mean rate and point in education? do you know how long he'd have before hes shipped out to school? i heard it was like the same night or the day after boot camp.

Hi Amber,

It depends on his rate and at what point he is in  his education.  My son is in sonar for submarines and he spent a year in school plus 3 months before he went on his first underway. Good luck.

Gloria, congrats to you son!  He looks very handsome in his dress whites.

I received a phone call from my sailor today.  He is on deployment so haven't talked to him in a while.  He received his 3rd NAM this week.  Very proud of him and the man he has grown to be.  The Navy has done wonders for him.

Praying for the safety of all of our sailors.

Gloria, Wow, does he look sharp, or rather I should say "expert", in those crisp dress whites and rows of ribbons and beautiful shiny dolphins! Congratulations to him and thanks to him also for volunteering to continue to protect us. Definitely a pleased and proud moment for you.

Ah, timsmom, I am preparing myself for that exact same feeling and am asking for prayers, too. Of course, I don't know anything specific about when my submariner will be out on his first underway(actually, it will be as a rider because his boat is in dry dock) but I have already given him his August birthday presents just incase there's no communication then: (   And, yes, God bless your son, his crew, and all that have commited to serve and protect: )

Missing my son who is underway!  Praying for him and all the crew on the sub!  God bless our sailors.
