Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

Sharon, boomMom and Jill, sooooooooooooooooo very happy to read all your good news! Yay for the RDC(s) who made it possible for them to have some "free play time"! I'm sure that meant the world to them - such an encouragement! It really made my weekend to know your boys are doing so well. I'll continue to pray over them, and you!
Good morning ladies,
Yes, yesterday was an exciting day as our son called us! We had about an hour of total talk time, interrupted only by chow. He also called his sister and spoke with her for 45 minutes which so warmed my heart.
Jill, he told us he bought dinner for 2 other guys so now I know who one of them was. He told me he has turned Port Watch over to your son.
Apparently, the 3 hours at the NEX was a reward for some huge cleaning project the guys in the RCU completed recently. My son said several of the guys went to 'Ricky Heaven' which is the part of the NEX where the computers, arcade games, 'restaurants' are located but he decided to make phone calls.
Here's the latest on his medical status. He returned to phase 4, had pain again while running the 400 meters, mentioned it to the doctor who put him back to phase 3 again for a week. He will have x-rays of his legs taken tomorrow (Monday) and has a follow-up appointment with the doctor on Tuesday. The doctor did tell my son that he would have pain for awhile even though his fractures are healed - the same thing your SR heard, Jill.
I asked him to please write us a short note after the doctor appointment to let us know what happened and just in case he didn't get to call next Saturday. We shall see if that happens.
Since we last spoke with him, either 2 or 3 weeks ago, he was able to advance with some of the training - he took the 2nd test, passed it and completed simulated firearms. He hopes to start/do firefighting and live firearms training this week if there's a division with an opening for him. After that, he would need to do the 3rd test, the medical PFA, the final PFA then BS21. He is definitely motivated to get back - again - to phase 4 and complete the medical PFA so he can get closer to completing bootcamp. He has been in Bootcamp since December 12th and in the RCU since January 17th so he is quite ready to finish and move on.
At this point, he is just not sure if he'll be sent back to a regular division or if he'll be able/allowed to finish everything while in the RCU. He thinks it would be better to finish everything while in the RCU - I know some moms have said that is what their SRs did and it worked out for them.
Regardless, however he completes Bootcamp he said in all likelihood he'll be transferred to the THU for a couple of months before he heads to A school in Charleston, SC. The time in THU has something to do with when his Nuke 'A' school starts.
From what I've read here, he'll have a bit more freedom and can have his cell phone with him. Plus we will be able to visit him - hooray!
He sounded so much happier during this phone call. Advancing in training has definitely been a plus for him as he is doing something and not just sitting around.
Thank you, ladies, for your prayers and concerns for my son. It means so much to know that there are other moms praying and hoping for the best outcome for my guy as I do for your SRs.
Enjoy your day, Sharon
Yay for you and your SR, Jill! I also got a half-hour phone call and a 45 minute Facebook chat! Well, the FB chat was really for his "peeps" here at home, although there were comments from other sailors from his old division. My son is kind of closed-mouthed about the guys there except for the fact that they gave him heat about not writing to me! ;-) I find it cool that we (moms and significant others) have connections through our SRs AND here. It gives me comfort. Thank you all!
My son said it was a surprise furlough for them. They had gone out for supplies (he thought) and then the RDC said, "Have fun! 3 hours." My son said he was frozen with indecision for a couple of minutes! lol Looking around the NEX (I believe) until his eyes locked on Subway, one of his faves! He bought his favorite sandwich, Arizona Iced Tea, and Reese's PB and, he swears, was going to go into a sugar coma while on the phone with me! LOL! I said either that or the loo in the next hour! Then one of the SRs got off the computer and my son had the idea to go on FB. I'm not good on FB; hardly go on. Just within the past few months I've been going on to post stuff for him on his account and copy/paste stuff from FB on to my letters to him. (yes, I word-process my letters to him!) In the first 5 minutes, he told me he had 7 chats going at the same time and it had built up to 12 by the end! I didn't mind the wait, though, I was just so happy for him to finally be able to connect to his friends after being gone for 4 months. I made him promise, at the end, to write to me and send it out on Sunday (it's still Saturday for me). I expect a letter on Thursday! Thanks for letting me share my happy day with you all! And thanks for the books and stuff, Jill, sounds like our sons have the same tastes in books! He loves puzzles also! I sent him a couple decks of cards but he said he couldn't have them; it promotes gambling and all. Oh well, live and learn, right?
Oh yeah, forgot to tell you guys. I sent more books this morning, The second in the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" series, the first two of the Jason Bourne series, and Jeff Dunham's book "All By Myselves", I think it's called. I know a few of them are reading these, along with the Game of Thrones series. Also sent some puzzle books, so tell your guys to hit mine up if they want.
Hit the jackpot, a one hour phone call. I am in Heaven, this is so much more than we've gotten to talk since he left in January. All is well, he is moved to Phase 2, and in good spirits tonight since they got to have pizza. His fracture is actually a little worse than they thought initially, he said the bones were actually starting to separate, but still "healable" so far. They have warned him though, that he will likely have some pain for some months to come, especially when he gets to Phase 3 and 4.
BoomMom, my son knows your son, they are together a lot.
Sharon, I think your son bought the pizza this evening, and mine bought the drinks. He says all the guys pretty much buy each other stuff all the time, sometimes silly stuff, just because they can. lol
Hoping all of you got calls today also.
And Janet, you are absolutely right about what you wrote on Thursday, nobody really understands the particular issues that we've had to go through, (and still have to go through) unless you've had to do this personally. Somebody needs to write a handbook. :)
Prayers and hugs to all. Thanks Mom's for being here.
Thanks, Janet! I think all us women are holding our breath for another letter today or a call tomorrow! Since it's just a wish, I wish for BOTH!! It's still lunch time here so I'm hoping....;-) ~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~*+~* (magic dust to all!)
Hoping for letters and calls for EVERYONE this weekend....
WOW!!! Is this the week for letters or what??? It seems to happen that you get a letter just when you've given up on getting one this week. Glad to hear that both Jill and BoomMom received them... they really are precious to us, aren't they? Even if they don't really say anything, they mean so much.
Jill... my son mentioned the Peanut Butter shot two or three times -- once before RCU and then I think twice while in RCU. I believe it's a penicillin shot, but the kids all seem to call it the Peanut Butter shot -- something about it feeling like a lump and sticking around for awhile.
BoomMom... Phase 3 is great news! I think that they usually only have two or three weeks in Phase 3 (depending), so Phase 4 will not be too far off. Just remember, it's getting closer every day.
Sharon... I'm still hoping EVERY SINGLE WEEK that your boy gets to writing more often. I'm going crazy here not knowing what is going on with your son. Still no word on whether he moved to Phase 4, but it's possible he's there and just hasn't written or called to let you know. That is my hope and that you'll get a call this weekend with him telling you he's running again and his medical PFA is just around the corner.
Patrick's Mom.... What can I say, except you're the BEST!!! Again, your continued support means so much. I have to agree that this group has meant the world to me.
I go to the Boot Camp Mom's group, but they really don't have the same kinds of issues that we here have had to go through. Unless you've had the EXTENDED version of boot camp that all of us here have had, I don't think you can possibly understand the difficulties of having an injured child when you can't see or speak to them whenever you want to. Snail mail is tough -- when you (possibly) get a letter but it's a week or more old by the time you get it. I want each of you ladies here to know, you are the strongest group around! With what we go through with our children in RCU, we really are ROCKS!! The support from the women here, really have kept me sane through this ordeal! Each and every one of you is amazing!!!
Jill, glad to see your SR is hanging in there and that his spirits have lifted since he initialy started writing your letter. I sent my son some of those word puzzle books when he was in RCU. They definitely benefit by things to keep themselves busy during so much down time. Glad to hear he has a position to also keep him a bit busier! Too funny about feeling like Sharon's son's slave! As far as the peanut butter shot, I wasn't aware that they got more than one of them in boot camp. Perhaps because he's been there longer, he got another one. If my son got a second one, he never mentioned it. I'll have to ask him.
Sharon, Praying you're the next one to have the FABULOUS news that your boy is now a Sailor. Continuing to pray over him for God's perfect healing. Any news lately as to when he might either return to a division or proceed directly from RCU?
boomMom, thank you for sharing that it's still nice to see me here. I feel so invested in this area (RCU), and so want to continue to encourage those of you still walking this difficult road. In fact, I may continue to come here indefinitely for the new Mom's coming in. I'll just never forget how devastated I was when Patrick because injured and was transported to RCU. Nobody on the other areas of the boards could possibly understand what I was going through, but the women here sure did! (Just please let me know if I'm making anyone sad/uncomfortable by my continued presence. THAT is something I'd certainly never want to do).
Patrick is doing fine - although a bit bored waiting to "class-up" in Groton, CT. He is scheduled to start BESS which is kinda like Basic for Submarine training, the Monday after Easter. My hubby, and my parents and I are hoping to go to visit him over Easter weekend. After we made our plans to go, he called me a couple of days later to say, "Mom, i have bad news, I have duty on Easter Sunday." What????? Anyway, his roomate told him he could probably switch with someone, so he's going to talk to his superiors today to try to work this out. I'm praying he can, because his grandparents haven't seen him since his going away party before Thanksgiving. This will be such a blessed and special Easter for us. It just HAS to work out.
Continuing to lift you all in prayer, and STILL rejoicing with Janet over Garrett becoming a Sailor yesterday!!!
May good things (calls, letters, new Sailors) abound here!!!
Karen
I also got a letter today! (on a Wednesday, really?!?) And it was written on the 20th and 21st. Whew! I have to thank all you ladies for trying to put pressure on my son to write! He said he caught flack from about 10 guys for not writing because their moms complained to them! Too funny! I really love you all! Of course, he doesn't respond to guilt, but I don't care; just his acknowledgment of your SR's getting on his case was very touching to me. He also stated that they were able to single him out because he's the only one there from Hawaii! Mahalo (thank you) to all of you! (pronounced mah-hah-lo)
I also got info that he's been phased to 3. According to him, he really wasn't "broken"; his heart was the issue and the anomalies only happen when he sits still, and PT doesn't allow him to sit still (although he's now been idle for 25 days)! LOL!
Janet-I'm so, so happy for you and proud of your Sailor! Have a wonderful trip and reunion! I guess your son is "responsible" too! I think he takes after his mom! <wink!>
Patrick's Mom- It's nice to see you on the board; you and your Sailor were my first success stories since I joined this group. You hold a special place in my heart. Has he acclimated yet?
Jill- I'm glad to hear that your SR is doing better. I think it's awesome that Sharon's SR is training your son to take over. Can you or someone else explain the peanutbutter? I'm not familiar with the "procedure".
SharonW-Praying AND crossing my fingers hoping for the same conclusion of finishing boot camp. About the letter writing thing....um...<high 5>...I'm with you, sister!
