It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Thanks for the update, Jill. I wonder if my son is training your son to take over as Port Watch when he (finally) leaves RCU and returns to a division to finish boot camp?
Perhaps now that my SR has a 'slave' he'll have plenty of time to write to us. Ahhh, one can dream...

Got a letter today ladies!  Not much in the way of new news, it was written some time ago, part of it from March 16th, and he was in pretty bad spirits at that time, cause the time just seems so long.  I know that's to be expected though.  He's ready for more books and also says to send some puzzle magazines.
The rest of the letter was written on the 22nd, and he was in a better frame of mind, he says he has a new position as post watch assistant, (which he translated tongue in cheek as being Sharon's son's slave)  lol  And he complains about his butt being sore from yet another round of peanut butter.  Good grief, how often do they get those things, and for how long?

Hooray for your Sailor! And for you, Janet!  I had goosebumps reading your posts.  Thank you for sharing his insights about his stay in the RCU.

Great idea to wait until he is in San Antonio so you'll have lots of time with him.

Yes, prayers were definitely answered!  Congratulations again, Sharon

Ok Miss Janet, I am sitting here at work bawling happy happy tears, and I just read your message to everyone here.  Big big cheers went up for you and your son!  Stopping everything to thank God for answered prayers.  So happy for you!!

PRAISES TO THE LORD Janet!!!  I can't even BEGIN to tell you how happy I am for Garrett and for you!!!  I've been praying daily, and am so happy that our prayers have been answered and you have a SAILOR!!!  I'm sure you cannot wait to see him, and I'll continue to pray all goes well and you'll be able to have one SWEET visit!  Congratulations Mom!!!  A HUGE HUG is coming at you!!!

Okay, ladies...   Got the call this morning...   He is FINALLY an official Sailor of the U.S. Navy!!!!!     He finished BattleStations 21 and was able to give us the call.  I can hardly believe it.  He thinks he will be flying out of Great Lakes early Fri. morning, so he asked us to wait and then come see him in San Antonio in a couple of weeks instead.  He said that way, he would know that he would actually have time to spend with us (he's become a lot like his dad in the responsible way -- LOL!)

Looking at the calendar, he's been at RTC just over 5 months (156 days) total.  That's almost doing boot camp (for the normal uninjured people) 3 times over -- YIKES!!  It's been a long haul, but he said he is happy he went through all he did.  He said he thinks it helped him grow up and focus on what is really important.  Seems like he's really matured while there.  It's hard to believe that this is the same kid that left last October.

Anyway, I'll still be here monitoring what is going on with everyone's SR.  You guys really mean so much to me, and we've been through so much together.  Have a great day!!

-Janet

I'm so happy for you! Best news since, "It's a boy!" some 18 years and 4 months ago! :-D Just kidding, but I cried then, too! And right now, it's your husband's job to be the responsible one; go crazy! I'll celebrate with you! Hugs! <sniff!> lol

WOO HOO!!! Best news I've heard all day! And yes, you are rambling, but that's perfectly ok, and you deserve all the rambling that you want to do!! Fabulous!

I can't believe it!!!!  It's Tuesday, and I got a phone call from my son a couple of hours ago (at work no less).  He's FINALLY finished all of his PFAs!!!  WOW!!!  Was that a loooooooong time coming, or what?  He has BattleStations 21 tonight, so he figures he will actually be done with RCU and into THU by about 2pm tomorrow.  I (honestly) can't believe it!  Unfortunately, he thinks he will then ship out for his A-School by Friday (early am.)  That leaves us almost no time to fly there to see him.  BTW -- if you've been watching flights at all, prices are skyhigh right now unless you can book waaaaaaaay in advance.  I'm so conflicted right now.  Do I just spend the $$ and not worry about the cost, maybe get to see him just a short time -- maybe -- he really isn't sure about anything yet.  Or, do we wait and go see him once he gets to A-School?  Of course, I want to see him at all costs, but I know I still need to be the responsible mom here -- my husband keeps reminding me of this.

However, since he's been there since October, I think they earn (something like) 2½ days leave per month.  If that's the case, it's possible he could come home before having to go to A-School.  Since he's not actually going through PIR, that might be the best option.  I know -- I'm rambling, I just can't help it.  Anyway, I'll let you know what we decide to do on it.

Thanks again for being there for me ladies!  You really are the BEST!!!

Praise the Lord Janet.  I got home from work a while ago, ate a quick dinner with my hubby and before relaxing for the rest of the evening with him, just HAD to pop on here to see if you had any news!  Sooooo happy to hear a schedule is in place, and things are moving ahead.  And...pain free...YIPPEE!!!  That sure is an answer to prayer.  Funny, all the Battlestations I had been familiar with before Patrick's WERE run at the end of the week, usually on a Thursday.  Will continue to keep Garrett (and you of course) in prayer.  Cannot WAIT to hear your GREAT news and know that you'll shortly be on your way to huggin your boy!
