It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

Jill... thanks for the info. on the possible delays of phone calls or mail. I guess I won't hold my breath, or I might be waiting a loooooooong time. LOL! I'll just be happliy surprised now if he calls.
Welcome to the group, Melissa. Sorry to hear about your SRs fracture -- it seems like a common injury for these kids while at RTC. Luckily he missed Phase 1 (usually on crutches I think) which, of course, makes the recovery time even longer. However, there are some things that the kids are able to receive while in RCU that they don't get in RTC. They can have books, so if there are some your SR loves, you might want to send a couple out to raise his spirits and give him something to do in his "down" time. Some of the other moms here have great ideas about things to send, and I'm sure they'll chime in and let you know soon. I know that 6 weeks seems like FOREVER right now, but the end will be here before you know it.
Since your SR had 22 days to go, he might have the option to return to a divison after finishing up his recover and then graduate with a PIR. He may choose to do that, or he may decide to finish up what he has left while he is in RCU. If he chooses to finish up, he then wouldn't participate in the PIR. Sometimes by the end of this thing, they just want to be finished, so it will depend on your SR. Hope to see you back here lots, Melissa!
Otherwise, it's Thursday, Ladies!! Hoping we all get those letters in the mail today or tomorrow!
Hugs!
-Janet
Hi Melissa, and welcome! Sorry to meet you under these circumstances though...I think most of us here have SR's who were very close to graduation when they arrived in RCU. My son was to graduate on 1/27 and went to the RCU on 1/18, so I know the grave disappointment that both you and your SR must be feeling. He WILL get through this though, and so will you! They must pass a medical PFA before being allowed to do Battlestations, and yes, some can graduate right from RCU. My son was one that chose this path. As far as I know the PFA is not modified because they have been hurt, and I believe they must meet the same requirements they were to meet before. And, yes, they are in Phase 4 (which is the final phase in healing in RCU) before they would do their final medical PFA. Adding you and your son to the list of those being prayed over. This is a small but wonderful group of Moms here to answer your questions and offer you support!
Hi Ladies-I am new to this forum. My son called us last Sat. to let us know he was put in RCU last Thur. with a stress fracture of his femur. He said he was in phase 2. He had just 22 days to go till graduation! My question is what is a medical PFA? I read the post Janet wrote and it says something about medical PFA. Is this the same PFA they take in reg. division but modified due to their medical conditions? or is this something they must pass to get out of RCU? I have also read in these posts that some SRs graduate from RCU. If they do, do they need to do the same PFA time requirements etc that everyone else does in the reg. divisions? And lastly do they need to be in phase 4 in order to do the testing?Thanks- Melissa
Hey, everybody, not much time, (I'm at work), but thought you all might want to know, (you probably already do). I heard that the Navy was doing some kind of security tests etc...this week, and one of the effects may be delayed mail and or phone calls for a bit. I know a lot of you are waiting on "any minute" news, especially those whose kids are in Phase 4....
Hugs, thoughts and prayers to all, hope to have more time to be on here this weekend...
Haven't heard anything yet this week. I keep telling myself our usual mantra... "No News is Good News." I figure if there was a problem, he would have called (right?), so I'm trying to keep positive and figure he must be doing okay. Hopefully his medical PFA will be today or tomorrow, then (hopefully) we will get a call telling us he passed -- I really am hoping he will be able to call to let us know (for sure) that BS21 would be Monday/Tuesday. If so, we would then make air reservations and plan to be there Wed-ish.
Thanks to all for your positive thoughts and prayers!
-Janet
No word about Phase 4. His medical appointment was yesterday. I asked him to write and let me know what happened - just in case he doesn't get to call this weekend.
Janet, have you heard how your SR is doing with running?
And I am right there with the tearing up.
Sharon
Hi Jacque... Did your daughter just move into Phase 2? It seems like 6 weeks is the countdown time the kids are given from Phase 2 to the end -- give or take a week or two, of course :)) I'm so happy to hear that her spirits are up. I'm sure that hearing your voice is a boost for her as well. Will keep praying for a quick recovery for her.
BoomMom... Isn't everything here just an emotional rollercoaster? I find myself tearing up at the strangest times and over the weirdest things too.
Sharon... Any word on Phase 4?
-Janet
Hi Jacque, will definitely add your daughter to my prayer list. When my son was there, it seemed the girls's side of RCU got to make phone calls home each weekend. (The boys on the other hand had some trouble and were on lockdown more than once!) Yay for the girls keeping it together to get this privilege. It helps so much while they're there to get a weekly update. Hoping her healing progresses faster than expected!
SharonW, I'm not sure which part of your comment to Angie it was, but I got goosebumps AND teared up! I'm really not sure why! :-P
AngieT, it is wonderful news about your daughter! We're all happy and encouraged for the both of you! Good luck!
