RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Information

RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

Location: RTC Chicago, IL
Members: 203
Latest Activity: Jul 20, 2023

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Phillies...congratulations on Phase 4. It shouldn't be much longer now. Will continue to pray for her. I can't describe the feeling to hear the relief in his voice when he called to say he was finished and out. I will be burning our blue lights as well.

Barbydahlzz- welcome :). My daughter is in RCU for heel stress fractures also. She was 1 week away from PIR. She is in phase 4 now. Like everyone has said- continue to send letters and I will pray for him when I light a candle for all of the recruits on RCU.

Yes. He will be on medical hold for a while. He is spec ops so the doctors are keeping him for a while longer for the leg to heal completely. He has to run 5 miles the day he goes to his next assignment. It was healed enough to run his mile and a half for graduation, but not well enough to run 5 miles. He will have to build back up to where he was before they will release him. It may take a month or more. We are not complaining because they have taken very good care of him. We are just so grateful he is out of boot camp and RCU.

cool thanks...  i just cant imagine breaking a leg...is your Sr doing well?

Comment by paces on December 29, 2011 at 12:18am

barbydahlzz... There are 4 phases of recovery. If he is in Phase 3, he is doing well. Each phase is about 2 weeks depending on the injury. Ours phase 1 and 2 lasted much longer because he completely broke his leg. I don't think Phase 3 and 4 were quite 2 weeks each for him. I think he went through them rather quickly.  Will be praying for a quick and complete recovery.

paces.... oh wow... that is RUFF.... my SR said he's in phase 3?? idk what that means... and said that he would go back to a div at someones 5-3 day....  yes i got his address... while i was in navy boot, got asmoe'd for bronchitis.. borderline pneumonia...  spent ANOTHER 2 weeks there ... so i know what he's feeling... I wasnt happy when it happened to me but now Im really sad for my sr... Im going to mail  A LOAD and have already spread the word for mail to go to him while he's on hold......  if he has the choice of joining another div/ or finish in RCU he'd go to a division...good luck to your SR...

barbydahlzz...So very sorry to hear about his injury.  I will add him to our prayers. It really depends on the injury. Ours had a complete fracture of the fibula and I  just found out he was restricted to bed for a while and was only allowed up to go to the restroom and was supervised then.  They do a lot of cleaning and reading the handbook and regulations. It is very difficult for them and he will begin to feel like he has let everyone down. Please send as much encouraging mail as possible to help keep his spirits up. Most of all, tell him you are proud of him and love him.  Did he give you his new address? I learned three things while ours was there. Lots of prayers, patience and perseverance. He will make it through. Chances are he will be given a choice to finish in RCU or return to a unit. Ours chose to finish in RCU because it was uncertain if there would be a division he could join. He is Spec Ops. Also, you don't have that bonding like you do when you start with a group. If he chooses that route, he won't PIR. He will just report to his next assignment. Ours is on medical hold right now, but he finished on Dec 18. He had been there since Oct. Just encourage your SR as much as possible.  Keeping you in our prayers.

UGH.....Just got the call that my SR is in ship4/div2341..  stress fracture to the heel ... but says isn't that bad....  if he returns to a division he will go to his 5-3 day..  what do they do while they are there? Oh man this is such a bummer for him and us at home... just 15 days away... but has been battling the heel thing for a little while..

@Monchita: I know its hard looking back on their old Div but, some things just aren't meant to be we have all been in your shoes. Most recruits won't go to a PIR after RCU only off to their A school. PIR is a great experience but the ultimate goal for all of them is becoming a Sailor in the United States Navy. It all depends on where he was in the training process whether he will go back to a new Div or not, if he doesn't return to a Div then he will not participate in an actual PIR ceremony. Just stay positive and write lots of letters send pics and maybe have his brother write him something encouraging as well that will probably help him alot.

@paces: Congratulations on getting him home for some much deserved leave. Enjoy every last minute of it. I knw having my son home on leave for Christmas has been so great, I am not looking forward to the 2nd as thats when he leaves but...so be it.

@Phillies: Tell her to keep up the good work and she will be out of there before you know it.

Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and have a very blessed and Happy New year.

phillies... Phase 4, that's great.  It will go by faster than you think. Ours went in on the 6th of Dec and finished on the 18. We will keep praying. Ours is on Medical Hold. We don't know how long that will be, but he is a sailor and that is all that matters right now. We are still taking one day at a time. His leave was approved and he will be home on Friday night. We will keep praying for yours.
