RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Aaah we all do care about each other and each others recruits as well. This group is a true blessing and full of information and encouragement when the days get tough. And yes they do get tough "westonsmom" put it right for sure not knowing whats happening when they are hurt is the worst and you will want lots of calls with lots of details but thanks to our recruits sometimes that doesn't happen.

paces; you are correct he won't be given more than he can handle and he will handle it just not on his time schedule. He's gonna do fine they take good care of them there but I know the boredom will get to him after the intense training he's been doing keep him busy and keep him motivated. The worse thing I had to do while my son was in RCU was to send him a kick in the pants letter when he started to feel sorry for himself, that's just not allowed :-) things happen and this was his choice and he needed to be reminded of that hopefully you won't find that  letter necessary. Be strong & best of luck.

WestonsMom...  Thanks. You have been a great encouragement.  I am feeling much better about his situation.  You, sbarber, and proudsistah have made this a much easier situation to understand and I greatly appreciate your willingness to share. 2-3 weeks, will that be in Pensacola?  He will graduate before Thanksgiving, then? Where are you from? We are in Georgia, about 6 hours from Panama City.  I can only imagine your relief and comfort knowing he has completed this phase of his training.  I will continue to pray for him.

Coastalkat... Love your picture by the way.  So cute!  What happened to your son? Our SR was in Ship 4 Div 823. We will continue to pray for your's as well.

the good news is you'll both being hearing from your SR's a lot more now in RCU than you would have from regular boot camp. the bad news is you want those calls even more now that they're hurt. i know it's hard but try to have patience and keep sending them encouraging letters. Please let us know if you get calls today!

coastalkat....my son should be shipping out tuesday to finallly leave chicago to go to FL for A School for 2-3 weeks. he's expecting to come home for a visit around thanksgiving. I also plan to be at his A School graduation. So there's more good news...if your SR doesn't have PIR at least they will have an A School graduation which you can also attend.

He went in Oct 12th. I've only received the one call the day he was transferred. I've received only one letter from RCU which was mailed last Sunday. It was a nice long letter but I'd sure like a phone call.

coastalKat ... How long has your SR been in RCU?  I am hoping for that call I keep hearing about. We have only received 3.  One when he arrived, a second about 3 weeks in and then the call Thursday.

WestonsMom... That is great.  When do you expect to be able to see him?

proudsistah...  She is a strong young lady.  You can expect great accomplishments for her.  She is a true inspiration to all Sailors. I am assuming she was not able to see anyone for that time period either. I am praying my son has the same determination and drive as she has shown. This is all he has wanted to do since he was about 4 years old.  He was in deferred deployment training for his EOD contract for 8 months prior to coming to boot camp. A broken fibula was the last thing we expected after all the training he has been through, but I keep holding on to "God is not going to give him more than he can handle and will see him through". This is the message I keep sending him as well. We will keep praying for all our SR's.

paces...Weston is much better now thanks. He's been able to get back on facebook and got his phone turned back on yesterday. lol THU is "temporary hold unit". this is where they go between RCU and A school. basically, they are there waiting to ship out. I don't think they go there unless they finished their training in RCU but not sure about that. Your SR could still have PIR but he has to make that decision because it may slow him down a week or two if he does go back to a division just for PIR.

coastalKat...they should be calling today because they didn't call last sunday. I hope you get to hear from your SR today!

proudsistah...my word! i didn't realize she was in boot camp that long! oh how that must've been rough! thank goodness she's finished!

My sister went home for 10 days after A school before being stationed to Norfolk VA... She showed us all the letters we sent her and the pictures... She got tearied actually she cried remembering and talking about her tough times in RCU. She said it was very hard to do stuff around while she had a full casted leg... She made a personalized monthly calendar too! It was very depressing and until now she still can't believe how she made it!

Paces- i'm so sorry that you and your son have to go through this tough time too. My sister stayed in RCU for a very loooong time... In fact she's got the record of the second female who stayed the longest in Bootcamp/RCU. (nov 2010-august 2011) She broke her shinbone during her final run (miscounted her laps instead of doing 12 she did 13 and on the 13th lap her tibia gave up on her and wasnt able to finish) 10 days prior to her graduation. She was very disappointed, devastated and frustrated...
As what westonsmom said letters letters and more letters full of support, motivational and positive thoughts! If you can write him everyday that will help a lot! Send some pictures too. Phase 1 in RCU will be the most boring part.. They don't do anything at all. Print some jokes, inpirational quotes, puzzles and wordsearch..
Just keep your spirits high..
Will be praying for your son's fast recovery...

Please post if anyone receives a call today. I'm being optimistic!

WestonsMom; How is your son? Does THU mean therapy unit? Thank you for your comments and advice.

sbarber and WestonsMom: I appreciate your responses. I never realized how soothing talking with other Moms would be.  It is good to hear about what happens after RCU.  I am writing or sending a card everyday. Not graduating will be a disappointment for him I know, but we weren't not going to be able to go. Too far and too expensive. He has a couple of good friends that were going to take our place.  We were looking forward to seeing him as often as we could once he was at Eglin. We are only about 6 hours from there.
