Information

RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

Location: RTC Chicago, IL
Members: 203
Latest Activity: Jul 20, 2023

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Thank you so much! I will try that. I had already tried the public affairs office and the only thing they would tell me was that he was not signed up for separation and I was quite relieved by that. I just really need to know how serious this is and if he will ever recover.

I think you're referring to a HIPA Release Form.

ok here's my suggestion... call the legal dept at (847) 688-4949 ext 228. This will be Mr Sengco (pronounced Sinko) and you may have to leave a message or two. Tell him that you need to see if your grandson has signed a HIPA Release Form and tell him the reason why.

You know, I just don't have any idea. I looked up this website that  Valtameri suggested and my virus protection(Norton} shows it isnt safe so at this point I don"t want to take any chances. It probably is safe but hasn't been tested. I received a letter from Tyler yesterday. He wanted to know what he has to do so that I can get copies of his medical records there or so they can get in touch with me. I have read on this website that theere is a waiver for him to sign but I am not sure what it is called and I couldn't  find it when I went back and looked.

Thank you so much Valtameri for the information. I had googled SMART several times but never included nerve damage with it! I am going to check it out right away.
Comment by Valtameri on October 12, 2011 at 10:43am
A lurker here ... I googled SMART and nerve damage and found Sensory Motor Adaptive Rehabilitation Technology ... perhaps that is what it means?

tylers gma... weston called monday and sounds well, thanks. i'm waiting to see when he'll be doing his PFA in the next week or so and praying he doesn't get reinjured. I will ask around and see what else I can find out about the SMART team. Some of his original division are friends of mine now on Facebook! :) I'm sure they can probably tell me more about it.
Comment by Tylers grandma on October 11, 2011 at 7:17pm
WestonsMom, I wrote Tyler and asked him about the SMART team. I hope he remembers to tell me when he writes. I have exhausted all efforts to find out through N4M and the Navy websight. I slso went through the VA hospital website there in Illinois and found nothing. I hope Weston is doing well and that you have heard from him.

tyler's grandma... you're very welcome. glad you got to talk to him! you can probably go on the navy website or do a search on here and find out exactly what SMART is.

kassie73...that's the 1st time i've heard of A school being that long. weston told me billy will be a submariner but had no idea how long the A school is. how far away will the A school be to you?

Comment by Kassie73 on October 10, 2011 at 11:21pm
Westonsmom, his A school is 48 weeks, almost a year. I guess the first month or so is sub training and the remaining 42 weeks is sonar radar stuff.
