Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Really? So if my son isn't in PIR I won't get the "official" "I'm a Sailor" call too? Ugghh.

WestonsMom - my sailor did not participate in PIR.  He was over 6 weeks into bootcamp and had formed pretty good bonds with his division.  He was Section Leader and Flag Bearer in his own division and felt that waiting in RCU for 5 weeks, then joining a new division would be less appealing than just finishing up and getting out of there.  He felt that if he joined a new division, he would be an "outsider" and wouldn't form the "work together" bond that he had before.  PLUS he was terrified that if he re-injured the knee, he would just be separated from the Navy and sent home.

He updated us with letters as he completed tasks and then SURPRISE! one Friday afternoon as I was driving back to my office from the bank, my cell phone rang, I picked it up and there he was sounding beyond exhausted.  I just asked what was up (expecting an update on his progress) and he said that he was at the NEX and just had an energy drink then "Well I did it"  and I made him say the words, "Mom, I'm a sailor".  Driving, crying and talking on the cell phone are not a good combination but well worth it!

TN Navy Mom... did your son participate in PIR?

Comment by Colten's Mom-Nuke A school 1207A on September 28, 2011 at 11:45am
Kassie I hope they do meet and Colten can be someone he can turn to here in the beginning. COlten is a 1st class Petty Officer in the div he told me what his job was but I didn't really understand. Hopefully Colten will be out of there before the end of October. He finished upo his Firefighting when h\was in phase 4 before they found that he was actually broken not just cracked. SO all he has left to do is BS21 final written test and final PFA. Hang in thee we are all in the same boat just at different stages.

Kassie - my sailor was in RCU last year.  They told him 4-6 weeks to heal from a knee injury and he was there for 5 weeks.  When my son phased up in his treatment to LLD, he was allowed to finish his final academic test, then when he was FFD (fit for duty) he did damage control, gas chamber, final PFA and Battle Stations.  He finished everything from RCU without joining another division as he was only 2.5 weeks from the finish line when he was sent to RCU.

I actually believe that he pushed himself to finish before his knee was fully healed BUT healed enough to finish, then he spent 5 weeks in THU (Temporary Holding Unit) before getting his PCS orders to Goose Creek. His 8 weeks of Navy Bootcamp ended up taking a few days over 4 months BUT he's a sailor and that's all that really mattered to him in the end.

Sending good luck healing vibes to your SR.  Those RCU recruits usually do stick together.  Mine is still in contact with some buddies he made in RCU.

Oh, don't be sorry!  It is what it is and they will heal, move on, and become Sailor's.  I can't believe your son had actual breaks, that is terrible and to only find it right now.  Hopefully the boys can meet and be cheerleaders for each other.  Sounds like your son has a great support system and an awesome mom.

yes my son has been there since Aug 4. Still has 3 weeks to go for stress fractures in his shins. But recently found out that they were actual breaks not stress fractures so the added another 4 weeks of rehab. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

My son has just been put into this division because of a fracture in his knee.  Is it typical that they are there as long as they say?  I am worried about him but know he will get through it.
