It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

WestonsMom: My son was in RCU for 7 weeks with his knees, he went back to a Div and PIR'd well he will PIR on the 16th with a new Div, he had a girl he enlisted with that had a similar problem and she was sent home its all up to the SR and their healing process as well as their attitude. The length of his stay will depend on his recovery and whether he PIR's or just does Battle Stations 21 out of RCU depends on where he was in his training. I wish you both the best of luck keep us posted and keep lots of mail going to your SR while he is in RCU my son said that was a life line as they have NOTHING else to do but physical therapy and NOTHING but remember they are still in boot camp and boot camp rules still apply. He will call you every weekend find out all you can then and be happy your getting to hear his voice.

dreak70 - I've read so many amazing stories here and in the FIT group about SR's healing and becoming Sailors - so inspiring.  Keep writing and praying!  It will happen!

tell her she can do it my daughter did it and she was there for almost 3 monthswith stress fractures in her femurs, lower shin, and top of foot also has pain in her hip.  Keep writing tell to put some little positive saying in each letter also send her something that will give her a laugh or put a smile on her face.  As along as she does her therpy she should be able to phrase up and heal

dreak70, my son has said the boredom is horrible just tell her to keep studying and do all she can do in her therapy attitiude is everything to the therapist and doctors, tell her to stay positive, my son has been there 6 weeks at least 2 more to go since he's phase 4 in his therapy. They do get to call home every weekend so you can stay updated on her progress. Keep it positive no matter what she will need your strength. P.S. it was my son's knee's as well so they can heal they can move on we just have to keep on standing there beside them. :-)

mamabear - congrats to you and Bravo Zulu to your new Sailor!!!

sbarber - keep writing - my son said that he'd never felt so special in his life as when I wrote him every day in BC - I wasn't sure if he'd even get the letters, I just kept writing ( and so did the dog, when I ran out of things to say!) - he was in RCU and FIT for 12 days total - not sure how much of each.  I heard that average is about 2 weeks.  Just keep saying "You CAN do it!"

Congrats to her and to you as well that was a long haul. :( I have been writing alot and printing things off of his facebook page to keep him entertained lol. I so hope to hear from him tomorrow and find out what his doctor said. I don't know if I could stand him being there that long I guess if I had to I could but ugh.... its nice to hear of the positive stories so thank you for sharing it with me. Best of luck to your daughter as she begins her career and you as well. sbarber

Hello sbarber, my daughter was in RCU about just under 3 months but depending what he is in there for will depend on how long he has to stay.  She had stress fractures in her legs at the point of breaking so she was in there longer than some people, and I she said some people had been there longer than her.  Tell him to remain strong it will get better. Always build his self esteem up if you can when he calls, and send lots of mail because they need something to keep their mind strong and spirits up.

I have a SAILOR she called this afternoon and said she made it.  Now what, she said she is in a holding area, she said she will get a liberty day but not sure when.  Do we get to see them before they go to A school or do they have to wait until they get there, I don't know how to plan.
