Information

RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

Location: RTC Chicago, IL
Members: 203
Latest Activity: Jul 20, 2023

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Last Thursday my son injured his shoulder during IT.  The doc called it a "Chicken Wing" injury and put my son in Ship 04 Div 2341.  I haven't heard from him at all and I am so concerned.  When are they allowed to call home?

Peggy Sue- you found us- I commented on your post as well as Aaronsmon! We're both on that page simply because it's not busy on this one.

Good afternoon Liz'smom ship 14 div 179, I believe I found the correct face book page. I shared my update on it, so please check later on to see if I commented on the correct page. Great news about your daughter, and hope you do receive a letter today!

Good Morning- did you find the fb group- If not I'll sign in at home and share it with you.  It's Thursday- hoping for another letter- I usually receive one on Mondays and thursdays now- hmm- more letters than when she was in actual BC- My daughter will not need to shadow another division, as she has completed everything except the PFA and BS21- so praying she will heal properlay and get these last obstacles done- Praying for all in this group to either get calls or letters today.

AaronsMom, You are such an awesome supportive mom and I know your son so appreciates it! Keep up the good work, and just know in time it will all work out. Sending out prayers for all who are in RCU.

PeggySue, I think that is one of the funny things. I sent him off with a book of stamps and when he called saying he was going into RCU I asked him what he needed and he said "stamps" At that point, he had mailed one letter! So now I have sent him 2 books of stamps, a USPS medium size care package with a flat rate stamped envelope in it because he wanted to send some of his mail home, I have mailed him 2 questionnaires that all he has to do is fill in the blanks and still nothing! I can just hear him, "if I just had my computer, cell phone, anything electronic"  lol I have no idea what he is really going through so I will just continue to support him and encourage him until I get to see him again. Thanks for your encouragement. I am so glad I have my computer so I can stay in touch with the other loved ones going through the same thing!

Aaronsmom, I forgot to mention I sent my son envelopes, paper and stamps quite a few times so that he could write to me or others. I'm sure your son would love to receive the photos. I sent funny photos of him, along with family photos, friends photos with him and his friends etc. I also posted on facebook once in a while a request for family and friends to write a note or send a card to him. He so appreciated the encoragement. Even though he has not written know he loves you and your support!

Thanks Peggy Sue, I have got the calling cards a couple times for Aaron and he shares them with the other recruits. Sending a letter a day along with jokes, pictures and pages of strengthening exercises! I will send more photos, I think he would enjoy those. I have made a habit of kicking my mailbox on most Thursdays, ONE letter since 4/16!  I wrote him today and told him it was really hard to carry on this one way conversation but I know if he had his phone he would be texting like crazy. Resigned myself to the "mom's job is to support" role!  lol

Aaronsmom, your son is in good hands at RCU. The doctors and staff work with every recruit to ensure they can move them back to a division to finish boot camp training and graduate. It is difficult for mom's and dad's to endure this as we only hear from them from time to time. I felt like I lived by my mail box every Thursday when coming home from work in hopes of a letter. Once in a while I was fortunate to have a short phone call from him with updates. Make sure and ask family and friends to send any type of mail they can to your son. I copied family photos, cartoons, jokes, etc to a word document, would print it and then mail it to him. Later he told me he cut out the pictures and made an album to look at once in a while to lift him up. There is a group on facebook who can send letters to those who are in RCU if you son knows anyone there in RCU who is not receiving any mail, along with I have their email as well. The group is called "Calling cards for Recruits". You can google search the group if you would like. I'll say some prayers for your son to heal quickly. Have a wonderful evening!

peggysuecory, that is exciting that your son is now back as a medic in RCU. My son went into RCU on May 3rd with stress fractures in his left heel. He was supposed to PIR 6/14, haven't heard from him since May 3rd but I hear from the other moms in RCU that he is in good hands. Hope he is recovering well. FB search is FIT/RCU Ship 04 and that should take you to another group of great loved ones.
