It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

Wow!!! Prayers are with you. That is what we are here for. You have to rely on the ladies in this group or you will absolutely lose your mind. (That is my opinion anyway). There isn't anyone else that can even begin to relate to what you and your SR are experiencing unless they have been through it themselves. It is truly a roller coaster ride you will never forget. Even the N4M whose SRs are in boot camp cannot relate because the experiences are so very different. I have 3 p's that I live by now. Prayer, Perseverance and Patience. The last one is the most difficult. Just keep sending those positive, encouraging letters to her and come here, share and vent. I am a true believer that everything eventually works out the way it is meant to be. Keep the faith (though it is very difficult to find right now) and we will too. Prayers and Hugs, Susan
Well OK, just got 2 more letters just to find out that my SR is now in bed for three days for bacterial pink eye.As well as being very ill with swollen glands. Along with minor surgery for something unrelated. Yup, all with no phone call! This just keeps gettin better. A doc appt for the knees on the 4th, was told to be FFD. My SR knows in her heart there's no way, no how! Really? It's funny, she went in the Navy healthy! No your absolutely right-this is not what we signed up for! But thanks for letting me vent...
The recovery will be as long as is needed. Ours was 7 very long months. He was actually in RCU for 2 and a half and then in recovery and therapy for the next 5 or so. You want her to recover completely. Ours was declared fit for duty and put in THU (holding) for therapy. He was released too early and then proceeded on to the second phase of Spec Ops. He reinjured his leg doing 1000 squats. So, back to THU for more therapy. It was not a fun time at all. So make sure she asks lots of questions and stays on top of her recovery. Hugs and Prayers. Susan
Thank you so much! This is tough, your so right, when you get that call you don't know what to do. Got my first letter yesterday but not much was said about recovery, I don't think my daughter really knows at this point. Doc appt was the next day, so I wait, no call yet. Knees can take a long time, how long do they keep them? I am so thankfull to you all who come back to help us newbees out!
DR'smom...That phone call was the worst for me. I have never felt so helpless in my life. It was over a week before we received our next call. Ours had a complete break of his fibula. He is now in Bahrain as a Master of Arms. Not where we expected but he is doing well. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but it seems like you will never get there. They usually get to call at least every other Sunday and they do write letters. We usually received our letter on Thursday. She will also get to call after she sees the doctor. Keep your chin up. This group is so supportive. I come back often just to check in. We had a long 7 month recovery, so I completely understand what you are going through. Just provide as much encouragement as you can to her. She will begin to feel depressed and like she has let everyone down. Just let her know how proud you are of her. Keeping you in our prayers. Hugs and Prayers.
DR'smom - you should hopefully get a call on Sunday and sometimes when they have a doctor's appointment. Last Sunday, someone did something wrong and when that happens they take everyone's phone privileges away. I'm hoping they will get a call out this week. My son has been in RCU since day 6, he left arrived in GL on 1/3. He's supposed to be finally joining a division but I don't know for sure which one, or when. Hang in there...you will find the people in these forums very helpful and caring. They have been so wonderful to me.
Thank you for this site. My daughter was sent to Ship 4 Div 2341 as of last Wednesday. Got a 10 second call of new ship/ that was it. Have been in fog ever since. She was on LLD with knee problems until the change. Haven't gotten a letter or call, it sucks not knowing whats happening. You hear others say we won't get any calls from our SR's, is that true? Hoping not! Anyone else have a SR in this division? Would love to hear from you.
Thank you everyone for your congrats & well wishes. I appreciate it so much. Thank goodness for the site!
Paces - I will tell him...I know they said they won't let him out of THU until the x-ray shows the fracture is completely healed....
Grace, that's great news! Congrats!
MattsMom...They are able to go to the NEX if they can walk, but it is not often. I sent mine a book of stamps a couple of times. He would usually let me know when he got low and I would send them in the next letter.
Congrats, CTMom. What wonderful news. Just please tell him to make sure he is well before they dismiss him from THU. That is the holding unit he will probably go into once he graduates. Ours was dismissed too early and he rebroke his leg
He didn't go straight to A school though. He went into the second phase of Spec Ops. He reinjured his leg doing 1000 squats. Praying for continued healing. Hugs and Prayers.
