RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

Location: RTC Chicago, IL

Latest Activity: Jul 20, 2023

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Navyknitt - did you hear from your son?

Does anyone know how I can get in touch with the Chaplain in Great Lakes?

Comment by Leora on August 27, 2012 at 10:37pm
Thanks for the advise. I bought the insurance so I can get a refund for the there that were going with me. I still want to go myself as I am meeting my boyfriend there. I am going to continue to hope I get to see her. I like the suggestion to contact the chaplain. I also wrote her and told her to tell the dr. Fingers crossed they give her liberty. Sorry you didn't get a call. I am sure you are pulling your hair out! Here's praying for a call for you!

leora...call the airline and tell them your flight is impacted by a medical issue of your child...that your SR is in a medical unit and is not allowed out. the airlines have bereavement/medical emergency fares. they will ask for proof, i am sure your daughter can get a copy of something on rtc paper stating she is in the rcu. i flew with delta and had to do this... i found them very very helpful. good luck!

I got my call yesterday. Originally they say she broke her foot but now they are saying she has a stress fracture in her ankle. She goes back to see the dr on 9/4. She is one of the girls that is very depressed. She said she won't get to be in a ceremony. Her group has PIR on 8/31. I am still going as I can't cancel my flight. I'm upset because I won't be abler to see her. Does anyone know if there is a way to see her?

I got a letter from my SR today. She admitted she is very depressed. I am writing her everyday and trying to motivate her, she said she is on Lld for 30 days. I hope that is accurate and she doesn't have to stay longer. She mentioned that she made some friends in there. I wonder if our SRs know each other!

Hello Ladies,  just got the call last night that my SR was transferred to here for 2 stress fractures, like many others I see.  She sounded positive on the phone, but bummed because she wanted to graduate with her division in 3 weeks. I'm praying for her and all the other SR's in 2341 for a quick recovery. She said she will be there 6 weeks, Does that sound accurate?

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it. I am keeping my thoughts positive and you are right...it doesn't matter when she graduated as long as she does. I'm keeping your SRs in my prayers too

Leora- I am so sorry :(. My daughter had 1 week left and she got hurt also. I allowed myself 1 day to cry and be sad , but then that's it. The reality is that although she did not graduate on the date that we all were waiting for- she made more friends and learned so much about how strong she really is. She was in RCU for months- but she finally made it out. Remember- it is more important that she will be a Sailor than 'when' she graduated. My prayers are with you and your daughter. Stay strong and supportive :)

Hi everyone...my daughter was scheduled to go to PiR on 8/31. I got a call tonight saying she broke her foot and is in RCU with this group. I am heart broken for her. She only had two weeks left! I am just hoping she will not be medically released. Any words of wisdom anyone can share?
