RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

Location: RTC Chicago, IL
Members: 203
Latest Activity: Jul 20, 2023

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Jill...   Your posts about graduation actually made me cry!!!   I can't wait to finally be able to see PIR for myself someday (maybe next April or so when my other son should complete RTC.)  What an exciting day and I'm sure the time spent, while not long in quantity, was perfect in quality.  Since your son now has a computer, remember there is always Skype or one of those video chat things.  Congratulations again!!   We're all so proud of your sailor!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law's passing.  Praying for your family during this time of sorrow.

Hugs!

-Janet

peggysuecory...So sorry to hear of your son's injuries. We will be praying for him. Also, sorry to hear about the colds/flu. They will take care of them though. I know it is very difficult.

They do take care of them during special times such as 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our son was there for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. They have a program called "Adopt-A-Soldier" that several participated in. Ours was not able because of the severity of his injury. He had to be constantly supervised. Instead those recruits went to a park and volunteers cooked dinner and they had recreation activities such as pool, air hockey, etc.

He said they really treated them well.

Hugs and Prayers, Susan

PS... When I did talk to my recruit today at times he had a very difficult time talking because he has a cold and was coughing most of the time. I heard that several now have the flu. He said there are about 80 male recruits he is sharing living quarters with. He is not going to ask to see a doctor, just waiting it out and hopes to feel better soon. :-)

Got a call from my SR today too and *Peggysuecory he loved the burgers they had too said they were such much better than the turkey burgers they have been getting. I pray for everyone who is going through the same thing. Deff hard to take a calm break sometimes but I know it will all work itself when he's ready! Thanks for the amazing support

My son was sent to RCU on 6/28 due to a bilateral stress fractures on both lower legs. He called today in good spirits and hopeful for recovery and to be able to finish boot camp. They participated in a special ceremony this morning to honor all of those who lost their lives defending our country. Later they were given a special lunch which he said was wonderful even real burgers and ribs along with home made pie. It's hard for both of us going through this transition, yet we have so many family and friends praying for him. It's great reading through some posts on here knowing others are going through the same thing. Take care everyone and hope you are enjoying the 4th!!!

Jill...Thank you for sharing the experience of graduation. I know it had to be awesome. Where does he go from here?

TwoForTheNavy...Definitely in our prayers. I relied on three things while our son was in RCU. Prayer, Patience and Perseverance. The patience part was extremely difficult, but the ladies here were wonderful at helping and encouraging. Keep the letters going and be as positive and encouraging as you can. He will get depressed and feel he has let everyone down, but just stay as positive as you can. The ladies here will help when you are also feeling down. It is comforting to know that others are experiencing the same difficult times you are and they can relate to your feelings.

Since we have joined the Navy (and I say we, because it is a family thing), I have found that only people who have family in the Navy completely understand what you are going through. You can't talk to just anyone and they be able to relate to you.

It was great to be able to go online and actually talk with someone who did understand. We are here for you. Also, don't hesitate to invite some to your friends list.

Jill...Thanks.

Hugs and Prayers...Susan

TwoForTheNavy: Will definitely keep your son in my prayers! Remember that we've all gotten those phone calls when our SR's were discouraged. It's natural to be down, but it gets better. Just stay positive for him, and the next phone call or letter you get will be better. He is being well cared for, and he will meet a lot of new people here, and even enjoy some aspects of RCU.

Nevermind my last post, I found the lady, and saw where Susan had answered her question. Good job Susan!

P.S.  Did anybody reply to that lady who messaged all of us a few days ago about needing address information for Ship 4?  I tried from my phone, but it wouldn't let me, now I can't find her again.  I don't remember her name, I think it started with a "j"......  ????

Happy 4th of July all! Prayers going out to your sons/daughters.  Please keep my son in prayer he will see a doctor tomorrow to find out just how bad his elbow is. He sounded very discouraged and down when I spoke with him on Sunday.
