Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

Location: RTC Chicago, IL

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Madeline, it is my understanding these days that once they are cleared by the doctor and pass their final PT test, they will be put back into a division that they will PIR with.  Unfortunately a timetable cannot be given for this process as the healing rate for each SR can be different.  Some have gotten to Phase 3, only to go back to Phase 2, etc.  I certainly hope this doesn't happen to your boyfriend, and yet I share this only so you are aware of the reality that it could happen.  What I learned going through this difficult process is not to expect anything (I know this is very hard), but it seems you may only set yourself up for disappointment if you do.  Keep writing Kyle letters, keep praying for him, and take each day as it comes.  Easier said than done I know!

Does anyone know what the process of going back into a division after being in RCU. Kyle (my boyfriend) was on phase 3 out of 4 of physical therapy as of 6/28. He said his next doctors appointment wasn't until 7/9. Since I'm sure everyone else is like me trying to figure out what they don't tell us! I'm hopeful there is a chance on monday 7/9 he will be cleared and take his PT test to get out RCU but was curious if anyone knows how long that takes or the process! THanks!

Madeline, my son was to PIR 1/27, but was transferred to RCU a couple of weeks before that with multiple stress fractures in both legs.  He spent several weeks in RCU, completed Battlestations on 2/28, and was transferred to THU (temporary holding unit) til he left for Groton, Connecticut Submarine School (where he is now) on 3/16.  He loves serving in the Navy and I'm very glad he was able to heal and persevere.  Some have not been so fortunate, as everyone's injuries and healing times are different.  But...I know God has a plan for each and every one, and if not the Navy, then something else equally wonderful I'm sure!

Susan, my son like yours skipped PIR in favor of getting out of there as soon as he possibly could.  (After all their time in RCU, completely understandable!)  Last I heard here, they were no longer allowing that privilege, and all were being sent back to a Division.

Thank you ladies! The support from the other pages and Facebook have been amazing! You really can't get through this alone. For Kyle the navy has been answered prayer. I am deff staying positive it's just the daily not knowing of how this are going that's is hard. He went into RCU at phase 2 and in two days was moved to phase 3. But his next doctors appointment oat for a week so hopig for some improvement in his health. He loves his sleep so I think when he was told they get 10 hours of sleep he was thrilled :) its the little things that will get us all through this right! Where are both your sons now?

Madeline...Don't be too disappointed if he doesn't get to participate in a formal graduation. Our son was finally able to graduate in late December after being in RCU for 3 months. He completed boot camp and graduated, but it wasn't the formal PIR. At that point, he was just glad to be able to finish.

Each of his phases of physical therapy lasted 2 to 3 weeks. It just depends on the severity of the injuries. It is amazing at how much the simplest things brings such joy. A candy bar, coke or even just to go outside for a few minutes brings a smile to them. I am glad you are able to talk with him. RCU is very difficult for them.

Patrick'sMom...Well said. I look back now and know it was only by prayers, faith and the support of other Moms experiencing the same emotions that I was able to persevere.

Prayers and Hugs to everyone.  Susan

Prayers for you both. Hugs and Prayers, Susan

Hi Madeline and welcome!  It seems most of the SR's that end up in RCU end up there very close to their PIR dates.  It is very sad, and very disappointing, especially for them.  It's a real loss not to PIR with their original division, and many times depression sets in initially when they are transferred.  I'm glad you received a call yesterday, and can only suggest that you keep writing encouraging letters.  They will help your boyfriend immensely in getting through this difficult time.  As for you, please come here often, as there are wonderful women here who understand what you're going through, and will be a tremendous help and encouragement to YOU!  Prayers going up for you and your boyfriend!

Hi! My boyfriend moved to RCU last tuesday and was scheduled for PIR on 7/13. Such a bummer that he has to move his graduation date back but I'm sure you all understand! He has a few stress fractures in his knee and he is in phase 3 out of 4 of physical therapy but said his next doctors appointment wasn't for a week so guessing his PIR is delayed 2 weeks at least. Missing him so much! But the phone call helped yesterday and glad to hear he was able to buy a little candy (he said he misses certain liberties like that)!

Susan, I know what you mean about being able to talk with your son even if you cannot "see" him.  It certainly is wonderful, isn't it?  That was what was so hard about boot camp, especially when your child ends up in RCU, and you STILL can't talk to them except when they allowed them a call.

For you Mom's whose children are still in RCU - there is that light at the end of the tunnel.  It's now been a few months since my son left RCU, and I can talk with him or text him any time I want - a precious gift indeed.  The memory of boot and RCU, and how difficult it was to have no contact, is now becoming a distant one.  It will for YOU too in time.  Prayers going up for all - those who have moved on from RCU whether it be to new stations, or separation, and those currently still there.  Keep the faith Moms - God has wonderful plans for our children - better than even we can imagine!  And I truly believe their time in RCU helps to build their character in ways maybe nothing else would.

Patrick'sMom... It does sound like a long time, but I have come to realize that time flies and too quickly. I really didn't realize how long it had been since we had seen him until we started talking about the date he would be home. At least we were able to talk with him and I think I will be fine as long as I can talk with him every week or so, just to hear his voice.

I had a friend who worked with the DOD on an air base in Japan. She taught music. She loved it over there. She was able to take lots of trips to other countries. It will be an adventure for sure.

Good luck to your son. That sounds exciting as well. Hugs and Prayers, Susan
