It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

I received a call from my daughter last night.  She was scheduled to graduate last Friday but had been unable to pass her final PFA before graduation due to pain in her foot.  She found out yesterday that she has multiple fractures in it and she will be in the RCU for 4-6 weeks as it heals.  She is extremely discouraged and down.  Of course, we will continue writing her every day (as we have done since she left) and encouraging her.

Any advice from any of you that have been through this?

Did anyone here send their recruit cartoons or newspaper articles along with their letters?  I don't want to do anything to cause her trouble but I know she's longing for news from the outside.

BoomMom...   I TOTALLY agree with Patrick's Mom.  You ALWAYS bring a smile to my face and make me laugh out loud!!!   Your posts are so uplifting and funny.

boomMom, your posts always make me laugh and smile!  You are a hoot!  Thank you for getting my day started like that!  I can picture Janet traveling to see Garrett with computer in tow too - too funny!!!  And...I can definitely relate to your statement about running your computer just like you run your car - turn it on and go!  When that doesn't happen, I'm sunk!

Thanks so much for your kind comments about Patrick and the pics I posted.  I love the pic you mentioned too. I was soooooo happy to be sharing Easter with him, and I think that is very evident by the grin on my face!  Patrick is doing well, but just told me this week his schooling is getting harder and requires lots of study.  He also has duty, but I'm not quite sure how often he's scheduled for that.  He graduates from Basic Submarine School on June 1st (the first part of his submarine training), and I've already got our reservations made at Navy Lodge.  Looking very forward to another trip to see him soon, and so thankful its a driveable distance for us (about 6 hours).

Hope you get a call or a letter this weekend from that son of yours.  I'll look forward to hearing an update on his progress.

As always, keeping all of your SR's in prayer.

Karen

Okay, Janet, taking your computer to your son is extremely hilarious!!---a necessity, I'm sure---but extremely hilarious!...Hi Son, it's so good to see you....btw, I just happen to have my computer with me...can you take a look at it? It's not working right.....LOL! Don't get me wrong, I am a computer illiterate next to my son and I run my computer like I run my car; turn it on and go! You guys should have seen my supervisor and I staring at an i-pad that our department had received, pressing buttons and nothing happening. I took it home to my son who go it up and running in less than 10 minutes! He had also downloaded books and free apps, and who knows what else he would have done if I hadn't stopped him!

Karen -how can you stand it?! Patrick is a great-looking young sailor (kind of looks like a young Stephen Baldwin!) I love that picture with his arm around you! How is he coming along with his classes? Does he have to work, too?

MK - Big Welcome to our humble group! I must admit that I've never heard of food poisoning lasting this long, tell him to keep hydrated, and I hope the best for your SR. I hope he is already fully recovered and able to go into the division that PIR's next week, and you get "the" call tomorrow!

Jill - Hey, girl, making do, while getting sabotaged by technology, is a very valuable skill and you should be proud that you have that ability!! BUT.....it wouldn't hurt to write your problem down and ask your son about it the next time he calls. lol

No letter this week, although I wasn't expecting any, but I can still hope for THE call!! .......C'mon, Honey, mama needs a rest from this fretting, please!......lol

Hoping for calls and/or letters for all the moms this weekend.  Haven't heard anything about letter lately, so I'm hoping some of these kids will write soon.

MK, thanks for the info.  So, MM is Machinist Mate, right?  I just looked it up online and it sounds like a very important job.  I hope that the rest of his training goes smoothly.  Take care!

Jill...  I'm with you on having your SR as your IT guy.  We've been having a problem with our home computer, so I'm planning to take it with us when we visit so my son can look at it.  Otherwise I'd have to find someone else to fix it and I wouldn't know where to start with that.  If he can't fix it, I guess I  can just buy a new one.  Computers can really be frustrating, can't they?  Boy, this kind of thing really makes you realize how much you depend on the kids.  Jill, you are a superstar for figuring out how to get around some of the stuff.  I give you 20 million gold stars for that!!!

Okay, so everything makes sense now.  I can see 3 photos that you posted, Karen.  Whew...   I don't feel like such an idiot now.  I'm actually giving myself a pat on the back because I feel like I wasn't as clueless as I thought I was (and since I can now view the photos.)  The pictures are wonderful!!!  I love the one with you and Patrick at dinner.  Was that the one taken at Great Lakes when you went to that really nice place?  Thanks so much for sharing the pics.  Also, now I know that they have to be approved first.  What a learning experience this is -- LOL!!

Comment by Patrick's Mom on May 4, 2012 at 11:49am

Okay Janet and Jill, here's the deal!  I just got a message from an Administrator of N4M that some of my photos had been "approved", but some were not.  (The ones that have been approved you should now be able to see in latest activity on my page.  I'm guessing that's why you couldn't see them Janet, as they hadn't been "approved" yet.).  The couple I really wanted you to see was of Patrick in his BCG's!  What the admin told me was that if I could "blur" out his last name on his uniform she'd be happy to post them.  How in the WORLD do I do that???  I can feel YOUR pain too Jill.  Can't imagine the computer problems you must have dealt with the last few months that your boy could have helped you with!!!

Comment by Jill on May 4, 2012 at 11:31am

Karen & Janet, just wanted to "share your pain" with the whole "needing our sons to help" with the technical aspect.  To give you a little background on mine, not only was he my own personal geek squad, he was also my IT guy at my business for 2 years before he joined the Navy.  You would not believe the stuff I've had to figure out on my own since he left, (and usually I CANT figure it out, so I have to figure out how to get around it...)
