RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Janet, that is so WEIRD!  When I look at my page in the middle, this is what I see:  Latest Activity, Profile Information, Text Box (don't have any idea what that is or what it's for!), My Photos and then Comment Wall.  Why in the world are we seeing 2 different things?!  We need our sons to help us!!!

If you want me to email you the pics, private message me your email and I'll send them over the weekend.  Have a great weekend too!  Like THAT is in question!!!  Enjoy your precious time with your boy!

Oh, and thanks for wondering about Patrick.  I'm sure he's going to have a GREAT weekend.  His friend (a girl, but not exactly steady girlfriend) is visiting him in Groton.

Okay, Karen...   I find "Friends" and "Groups" on the left side of your page, then "Latest Activity", "Profile" and "Comment Wall" in the middle, then the regular N4M stuff on the right.  I don't see anything else.  Anyway, have a good weekend.  Hope Patrick is doing well.

MK...   Hopefully your SR will call you this weekend and you can get more information from him.  Where will your SR go to A school?  Just curious.

Hey Janet - You have to scroll wayyyyyy down.  It's almost at the bottom of the page, but believe me I understand about feeling inept when it comes to this computer stuff!

MK - Hope things go well for your SR and he's not in RCU long!  Welcome to our little group!

Karen...   I tried to look at your page and see the pictures, but I think I'm really lame when it comes to this computer stuff because I couldn't find the slide show pictures.  I'm lucky I'm able to even post anything here, I guess...  LOL!!

Hi MK.  Your boyfriend has been there for 3 weeks for food poisoning?  Each SR is different.  The amount of time they will be there will depend on the problem that they have.  Your SR must have been pretty close to the end of his training at RTC if he was scheduled for PIR on 4/13 and has been there for the last few weeks.  Is it possible that he didn't pass some test or PFA and is in the FIT division waiting until he passes something?  Only your SR can tell you for sure, but know that this is a tough time for them if they had to be in Ship 4 while their original division went through PIR.  Try to just support him and keep his spirits up.  That's the best thing you can do for your SR.  It can really be an emotional rollercoaster -- they can be very depressed while there, so do your best to keep things happy for your SR.  Keeping both you and your SR in my prayers.

Oh my goodness ladies, you had me laughing about the BCG's.  My son had to wear them in boot camp too, but what I was told was this:  The reason they are called "birth control goggles" is because no one EVER got lucky while wearing them!  LOL

This spurred me to post a few pics (something I hadn't previously figured out how to do).  Anyway, if you'd like to see them, there's is a pic of me and Patrick in his BCG's on "my page" (you need to scroll to the very bottom) and the pics are shown in a slide show.  I added the pictures to albums and don't quite know why they don't show up there?  Oh how I wish Patrick was here to show Mom how to do this stuff!!!

Oh, and by the way, Patrick informed me they have done away with the BCG's and have some new style glasses for current boot camp recruits.  Sooo, evidently no one else will have to wear this type again!

BCG's are known by the recruits as Birth Control Glasses because, supposedly, that's how bad they look. I've never seen them, but I believe they're like the thick black horn-rimmed glasses that were popular in the 60's and 70's. Popular or lack of variety! My son wears them also!

And no, Janet, no grass skirt, no mai tai's (make mine a vodka tonic without the vodka OR the tonic! lol), no coconut bras, or any of that for me! I like to stay away from Waikiki Beach, thank you very much! You should just stay in your hotel, in the nice air-conditioned hotel or nearby eating places unless there's something that you just HAVE to see (besides your Sailor!). He's not going to be there long enough to get to know the place, but maybe the instructors or civilian workers on base might have suggestions. Just a thought......:-) Happy, happy, joy, joy......

BoomMom...  You can poke fun at me anytime you want.  Your posts ALWAYS make me smile.  I absolutely love your sense of humor!!!

Of course, I just picture you standing in Hawaii, wearing a grass skirt, drinking a mai tai, and enjoying the sea breeze -- that's my imagination of Hawaii and what I think I'd be doing while there (at least the mai tai part.)  Instead, our vacation will be in San Antonio -- HOT -- I keep imagining cowboys and indians at the site of the Alamo -- hot, dry and dusty.  I know they have the riverwalk there, but I'm picturing the desert.  I don't think that the sea breezes will be blowing there (of course, seeing our son will make up for it, but still....   Mmmmm Hawaii...)  I'll just have to pretend I'm feeling those sea breezes while I'm there.  LOL!!!

Sharon...  What a wonderful post.  I can't tell you how happy I am for you.  I'm thrilled to hear about Kevin's positive attitude.  I'm certain that having that positive attitude is what helped him make it through all he has had to go through.  Coming out with that same outlook really says something about how he was raised as well -- you are definitely a positive force for all here too.

Okay, so I felt like a complete idiot.  I didn't know what BCG was, so I searched the N4M website to see if I could figure it out.  I saw pictures of the glasses, and thought BCG could stand for several different things...   Big Cool Glasses, Boot Camp Glasses, etc.  Obviously they look cool to the kids now, as evidenced by the cashier with your son.  So, does he look any different to you?  I'm not sure what to expect when I finally see my son, so I'm really curious.

Again, I'm so happy that he is home with you and you can help him heal.

All my best to you and your family,

-Janet
