OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

LAST MINUTE TIPS:

1.  Don't forget MeetNGreet tonight at the Ramada Waukegan 200 N Green Bay Rd.  6-8 pm  All PIR family/friends/children are welcome!

2.  Get a good night of sleep (if possible!) and be up early...if you can get a 6:30 shuttle, that is great.  If you are driving, be in the line by around 6 or a little after (Lala says to not get in the far right lane as it ends...get in the one next to it).  This is not a really big PIR group, but I would still advise all to get there early.  They won't have as many bleachers set up with just 7 divisions so your actual division area would still "fill up."  You may want to have a small hand towel with you for your sailor to sit on during liberty....to keep those wonderful dress whites clean.  Also, have the Tide pen or Shout wipes with you too for touchups!

3.  While waiting for PIR to start, test out your cameras.  My piks came out dark (this is Lala's idea...just passing it on--sure wish I had done that  :-(  ).

4.  Be sure that you are dressed nicely, but comfortably.  A good bit of walking and bleacher climbing (keep this in mind if wearing dresses!) is happening that day.

5.  Get your piks quickly when liberty is called inside the hall.  They will clear it in about 10 minutes.  Remember, no piks allowed outside the hall!!!  They will take your camera/delete piks.

6.  Before your sailor heads back to his/her ship to get paid-for piks/sign out, decide on a spot to meet up with him/her.  Funny how all of those sailors can look alike and be hard to spot again!  :-)

7.  If returning on the shuttles, pick them up at the front gate where they dropped you off.  Sailor usually rides for free.   Shuttles are $3/pp each way.

8.  Your sailor will know the liberty rules quite well...believe me.  They will for sure want to be back on base early--long before curfew...that was my sailor's biggest concern.  They know the consequences if late.

9,  If meeting your sailor at the airport the next day, know flight times and where to meet them (airport).  If at Ohare, usually that would be at the USO where they will be relaxing until time to head to their gates.  At Midway, same thing.  But this one is past security...so make sure that your sailor meets you before security so you can get your gate pass.

10. One more time:  Here is Sarge's number if anyone has sudden transportation issues.  He is wonderful and has some staff working with him who are equally as wonderful:  847-212-0246

**And most importantly....have a wonderful time with your new sailors!  HOOYAH~
