MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

Camilleann- my daughter left with an re3e code.  I guess teh Navy has so many people, a navcom waiver is hard to get.  Although, her recruiter says since she scored so high on the asvab, it shouldn't be much of a problem.  Maybe I am just a worrywart!  I am not sure why they didn't pull her teeth in BC, she did say that they planned to pull 2, but not all of them.

momof4, hope your son is able to get home for his birthday.  If not, you can celebrate when he gets home.  navmomkim did your daughter leave with an re3 code?  my son did and wants to return as well but why are their chances slim?? he wants to finish college and go in as an officer.  Now that he has been home he is really determined to finish college, wish the military would be paying for it, but we would rather have him home and healthy..good luck with your daughters wisdom teeth.  Why didn't the pull them in bc?  My son said that there were a bunch of guys in his division that had to have them pulled.  Good thing they didn't pull them there because they said it was brutal.  Barely gave them enough novicaine and then were confined to their bunks for a week on pain meds.

Momof4- Keeping my fingers crossed your son gets home soon.  DEFINITELY before his birthday would be a HUGE help!  My daughter's birthday is tomorrow & mine is next Saturday- summer birthdays are the best!  My girl has been home for 2 weeks & she is more determined than ever to go back.  Everything we see says chances are slim, so we'll see.  Next week, we will find out whether her foot needs surgery or just time to heal.  In the meantime, she just spent a week with a wicked headache.  Turns out, she has to have her wisdom teeth out!  I guess everything happens for a reason & it's better she is home for that.

My daughter too BUT home does seem to really help. Sending good karma for a great birthday wish fulfilled!

Thank you!! I do worry about the mental status after he's been there for 2 weeks, he's never been an "up" kid, but he's never been this far down...I'm hoping things will be better once we get him home.  Next Friday is his birthday, hopefully he's home before then.

Hi Momof4! My daughter came home about a week after legal. Tell him hang in there and dont let the crazies get to him. I know its hard for you too. Thank goodness for the communication right? We are working on getting my daughter physically better ... Then we will work on the mental healing ... No handbook for us here so just hang tough and let me know if I can help in any way

My son called yesterday and sent another Facebook message today.  He met with legal today, he's been Ship 5 for 8 days now, I'm hoping they let him go quickly!!

mom0f4 my son was in a total of 16 days unfortunately.  He left after the 4th of July. Got into Sacramento a week ago tomarrow.  He has finally adjusted to civie life but still has a head cold from hell from being around 180 guys in one compartment.  Hope you hear from your son soon.

Hey Camilleann, I am glad your son is home now.  It's a relief when they get home, right?  Momof4- My daughter was in for 10 days.  I think they wanted to get them out before the holiday.  They had 40 leave at once on July 3rd.

Comment by MomOf4 on July 15, 2012 at 8:47am
Camilleann-how long was your son in Ship 5 before he got home?
