MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

She tells me that it could be 20 days before they send her home. I am sending her stuff from the local University so she can start looking at classes to sign up for fall, and possible scholarships. What kills me is her feeling so worthless and adrift. She needs to shake off that and start planning the next phase of her life. I hope that course catalogs and class schedules give her some feeling of direction and purpose. she is scheduled for a legal "hearing"next Friday. with nothing else to do until then.
Well it looks like she is not going to appeal the diagnosis. They did some fairly extensive testing, the diagnosis is sound and there seems to be no appeal available of the diagnosis is correct. She said that being in ship 5 is the most degrading humiliating part of her life. The rdcs took their name tags off their uniforms and they spend most of the time sitting and not having any purpose.
She is devastated. She can't stand the idea of waiting there for months to have them eventually say no anyway. She has a rough schedule and doesn't think she will be leaving until the 19th or 20th.
She is 25 and tested really high enough on all the tests that they issued an age waiver for her to join Nuke school. I wish she would focus on her brains and not on the failure of her lungs. But she feels as though she has let us down and doesn't want to face her friends and family when she gets back.
She needs counseling and some one to build her up but it seems that now that she is not useful to the Navy they have no reason to help her.
I am so upset.
Help, we received a call from SR saying she would be discharged after being diagnosed with asthma? Can she appeal? What can we do to help?
A "ReEnlistment code" of RE-4 means you are not recommended for reenlistment. Regulations state: "Individuals with a Navy/Marine/Coast Guard RE Code of "4" are normally not eligible to reenlist in their service, nor join another service."
The discharge code can be given for any amount of reasons. Suppose you had a bad knee, you would get a RE4 because you can't be used. Suppose you did drugs, you would get an RE4 also. Society only focuses on people that did bad things getting an RE4. It doesn't look at good sailors how got them for other medical reasons. Heck, if you were gay, you'd get a RE4 before. If I were a civilian company I would care less if you were gay.
The applications to enter federal civil service ask if you have military service. It Does NOT ask you the reason for discharge code nor your reenlistment code. It also says if you received a honorable discharge. The civilian world does not want people with OTHs, generals, or Dishonorable discharges.
So unless he starts talking about his discharge during his interview, then he will be safe. All he will need to say is "Yes, I served honorably"
does a RE-4 mean you can`t get a civil job? my son got an early entry seperation, for depresion with an RE-4?
My son finally moved on to Groton,Ct for BESS after being at THU since Jan 8. Aaaahhh...... it was nice being on here learning from others that these things just take time.
Are son's legal appeal was denied...he is coming home a very devastated young man....he was told that he can try again in 6 months with a waiver from MEPS on a condition our optometrist says he does not have and that was never found at MEPS or at an outside optometrist he was taken to there.....so very sad!!!
thank you for all your support
Hello...new home for now. SA daughter in THU to await A school orders at Great Lakes. Medical follow up mishap delayed; so, hopefully by the end of the week, she'll have complete registration done?
That is so exciting, CodMansMom! God is always in control. :)
So happy! Cody texted me this morning and he fly's out to GC for A school Monday morning. That was really quick for military. God answers prayer!
