MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

I just spoke with her, what a sad system to leave them with nothing to do and no support.  I wish there was a way to help her or someone there to stand up for her.

Thank you for this information.  Very upsetting though.

How do I get more information on whether my daughter would qualify in another branch, her navy recruiter had no clue as to why she was medically discharged from the Navy will any other branch be more upfront?

We got a short letter from Justin yesterday (still no phone call), sounds like he's still with 09/014 as he bragged about a perfect 5.0 score on the “zone inspection”, and his division’s 4.88 PFA (physical fitness assessment) that other 09/014‘s had mentioned. He wasn’t able to do the “live fire training” as he’s on crutches. Still says he feels like he "has let us down”...so I sent another letter assuring him that HE HAS NOT!!!
He says the x-ray (on the stress fracture in right leg) wasn’t “definitive”, so he was to go to VA Hospital on Thur 11-10 for a “nuclear bone scan”…ugh…He still thinks he won’t be able to come home for Christmas (as originally planned). Rebecca and I will go to recruiter tomorrow and see if we can find out more, if we still haven’t gotten a phone call.

Thank you so much for the info and ideas!
We've been trying to keep him encouraged,
but we still haven't been able to talk to him...
maybe tomorrow!Thanks Again!

If he goes to sick then he should be able to call home EVERY day. Make sure he has a good phone card! Only pay phones are available.

First of all, I continue to wish all our Veteran's a happy day, and Thank Them for ALL they do!!!

I posted this on the N4M as well as N4D site and was referred to this site for more info...
I have a few questions for anyone that can help. My son Justin (09/014) is in basics at Great Lakes. He has an injury which looks like will set him back. We received a letter that he wrote on  Sun Nov. 6, mailed Mon, recvd Thur Nov 10 -

He has a stress fracture in his right leg. He will now have 6-8 weeks physical therapy, and can not graduate with his division (I don't know why he can't participate with the rest of his PIR-???).
At this point, it looks like he will miss Christmas at home (which he was to have), go thru basics again (seems harsh-???), Nuke school will be post-poned (don't know how often they start a new class-???), and wedding date likely delayed due to scheduling.

Worst thing is we never got a phone call (we had been told earlier when we first found out about a "hurt leg" that if it was serious and he needed treatment, they would allow him a "free call home"-???). I just hope we don't have to wait another week for a letter to get to us.
If anyone from 09/014 gets a call, pls ask if they know anything about his status (if anyone does hear anything, or if you know how this kind of situation has been handled in the past, please feel free to answer here, or send me an email me at- markhartman5@sbcglobal.net).
He says (WRONGLY) that he feels like he has let us down!  Can you imagine??? Does anyone know if we can send recruits a letter by Fed-x?

Do they need phone cards, do they make more calls if they have?

I will go by and see if his recruiter knows anything more on Monday, if we still don’t hear from him over the weekend. If anyone does get a phone call from a recruit that knows Justin (tall skinny kid on crutches) please ask them to pass on a message- “We love him and he HAS NOT let us down!”
Thank You to anyone that can answer any of the above!

My daughter is being discharged because of TMJ is there anything she can do about this?  She is so upset

Comment by TFAN2 on October 21, 2011 at 4:26pm
Hi Johnnasuzanne, sorry to hear about your SR. Please feel free to send me a friend request. My son was sent home for asthma as well. Did they have your SR take the breathing tests? He can appeal the the separation if he has never had asthma in the past. It could be a new condition but it also could be a bad cold. If he wants to stay in the Navy and especially since he is soooo close to PIR then he should appeal it right away while he is still in ship 5. If he gets a medical Separation for asthma the only branch that MIGHT take him after a 2 year waiting period is the Army. The other branches won't touch m with a 10 foot pole with asthma listed in his records. If he leaves and tries to appeal later his chances of getting back in is less then 1 percent even though legal will tell him otherwise. Has he EVER been treated for asthma?? Make sure he signs the HIPAA and Legal forms to allow you to call and ask questions about his medical and the process. Hang in there!!! Sending prayers to help you both through this "bump" in the road! ~Tena
