veryproud ship04Div819, He graduated June 3rd. He was told a week before he graduated that they found he used an inhaler when he was six. So they were going to put him in ship 05 and apply for a medical waiver. He was given medical tests for his lungs and passed them all. He was actually denied his medical waiver about a week ago. The Navy doctor said that he was going to resubmit it because he doesn't believe that they read it. So we will see. He said his friends who were seperated. Were due to seasonal allergies, and one had a cyst in his sinuses, the other had a hurt shoulde and another had food allergies.  I can't believe they would seperate someone for allergies.

Hi Jim,my only concern is legal told me he was getting a medical dischage but the code RE 3E says failure to meet educational prerequisites.That's 2 totally different things.I just think they are trying to screw him.Maybe I'm wrong, it's just that no one said anything to me about edu stuff.Anyway thanks for the info! -Ruth

I have no idea,it makes absolutely no sense to me.The only thing I can think of is that in this day and age when everyone is so sue happy,the government is afraid to keep you if you have a hangnail.It's really ashame they are probably losing alot of really good guys! -Ruth

My son said that al his friends who have been waiting on medical waivers were seperated today. He hasn't heard anything about himself yet.  Why do they seperate so many people after they have already graduated?

Hey Moms, I need some advice,I was told my son was getting a medical discharge and that his RE code was RE 3E but when I looked that particular code up it's saying that it means failure to meet educational prerequisites which when I spoke with legal they never mentioned anything about that.I think that code might make it harder for him to get back in.Any info will be greatly appreciated! T...I called legal and spoke to a Mr.Senko, he was very nice and explained everything.The # is 1-847-688-4949 ext 228.Leave a message and he will call you back and answer any ?s you might have.He even called me the next day with my son in the room and we were all on speaker phone.Make the call I think it might put your mind at ease,at least a little.But DO NOT let them give him an RE4!!!!!! -Ruth

Tfan2-Page 4 of the DD-214 (discharge papers) is the most important part. There are several boxes involved.

Box 23 is the "Type of Seperation"-there are 18 different kinds;

Box 24-Character of Service-this is where "Honorable" through "Dishonorable is put-there are 6 types;

Box 26 is the SEPERATION code-in other words the "why" that you are being seperated(tons of these);

Box 27 is the Re-entry code-the "if and how" you are allowed to reapply for service.

An RE4 means that you are ineligible for reinlistment.

I am going to go out on limb and say "no" on the "other than honorable" It ranks up there with Dishonorable. OTH is administrative and Dis is punitive. These are for misconduct and worse.It is a lot to write so here is the wikipedia link:

I have a question for the veterans....if my son is discharged with an RE 4, does that mean he gets an "other then honorable" discharge? When filling out resume's I see the question about serving in the military and if it was an "other the honorable. I am worried that it will appear to future employers that he was booted out due to his behavior and not because of something that was completely our of his control.
