MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

My fiance just called today to say that he was transferred to Ship 05.  He was in Ship 04, RCU until then.  He's not going to fight it or anything, 'cause he was asking to come home, I believe.  His psyche tests were kinda iffy, according to the lady that evaluated him.  He wasn't depressed or anything, but apparently he's very egotistical. lol   I can't wait to see him, and if I've read right, it could be 10-20 days.. closer to 10 since he's not fighting it?

Thats interesting motherhen-- I wonder what they mean by "unprofessional" behavior. I know my daughter told me she asked many times to talk to chaplin, and someone else and was refused.  There were a few other things she said.  BUT, she did write this in a letter to some head guy.  Also, there was some other things (not sure what) she said about the RDC's (now some of this could be her)---In some of her things a "ball" was drop, and there were some people that weren't happy about what happen and how it was handled. It would be interesting to find out who they where investigating and why (and if some of it happen to be what happen to her).

My word of advice to your soon to be son-in-law tell him to find out if his job is overmanned because they are still taking in a lot of people even in the overmanned jobs, and those are ones they are quicker to get rid of. Even ones that have been on job for a few years, they aren't letting them reup---My daughter was going to be in one of the top 32 overmanned jobs, so even in A school if you aren't at top they are cutting.

PLEASE tell him to check it out---They are still taking these kids in even for the overmanned jobs. Mine sign up in Jan, and they gave her a job that is sooooo

overmanned.  It is stupid and sad

It's so sad for these kids to go through training in any fashion, and then gets discharged at any time.  If they recruit so many than they should give each one a chance to prove themselves after boot camp before they have a good reason to discharge them, but my brother said they do not have to be choosy because they only take the best and they have so many recruited.  He was in the Navy many years ago

Glad to hear he wants to fight this.  And I feel they do bully you into taking the separtion.  When my daughter made it thru to PIR, and completed she was so happy (and proud) then to find out a few days later they wanted her out. I think she felt so down, she just took it---and hope to fight it when she got out (they tell you---you can do this)---but I don't believe it is true.  They will tell you almost anything to get you out.  I don't know why the Navy keeps taking kids in---I read they take in 40,000 new recruits every year! If they are so over manned WHY???? You have kids that have completed their 4 or 6 years, and want to reup, but are told no.  My understanding there is a number of people they have to get rid of, or downsize.  So again like nikosmom said--any excuse to get rid of people.  Good luck to him!  And make sure IF they discharge him that he gets a good discharge code, the GI bill and VA benefits.  Take care!

DaveSeaBee- sorry to hear about your son. Where is he located now? I sure hope things work out for him and he can stay in.  But, I agree that the Navy is SO overmanned that they are getting rid of a lot of people.  My daughter included- (she actually had PIR and 3 days later was separated).  It is such a shame this is going on.  It really mess's these kids up. But the Navy doesn't care.  They know they can be replace so easy.  I know my daughters recruiters hasn't had to work a Friday in awhile (do to making good numbers) and I work in a high school.  I saw the Army and Marines there several times trying to recruit kids and maybe the Airforce once or twice. But I NEVER saw the Navy at the school.  It's kinda of funny too that our ROTC officers are all former Navy guys. Anyways I wish him the best, and will keep him in thoughts & prayers that everything works out for him.  Plz keep us posted

sorry to hear about your son's trouble, and wish i had some adivce for you both.  I can't believe they are going to send him home, when it wasn't totally his fault.  Us parents make mistakes too.  This day and age no one is allow to make mistakes, except the big fellows.  If someone has been in for two years, you would think they would work with him, is maybe some kind of punishment, but not discharge. When your mind is under alot of stress, you may have panic attack, but that doesn't necessary mean you will ever have another one.  i know I use to get them all the times. Maybe seek legal advice from a lawyer or your Veterans Affair Office, they might be able to help.  I will keep you both in my prayers.
