OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

***Have recruit sign WAIVER so they can speak to you about their case. The hours in Legal are 9 am to 5 pm Central Time. This is only if they are being separated and have been transfered to Ship 5.
If they are being separated on medical issue, have them sign HIPPA release so you can talk about the medical issues too.

MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

He will get them, just encourage him to hang tight. He is still a good person and should be given the out most respect. My daughter still says that Kyle is a Sailor at heart. All of theses kids are. They would not have tried if they thought this would be the outcome.

Comment by Tobianne on December 7, 2010 at 8:03pm: SC7202- How long ago did he leave for BC? Also it takes about 2 weeks sometimes to get mail forwarded, not sure why. Navy is possibly the slowest at mail. However I will say with the amount they take in, this is probably why!!

Comment by Lynne on December 7, 2010 at 6:58pm: In the new moms sto here site...they put together a list of advisers...so that when people first come to the site...they see a list of about 8 names so if moms have questions they can message one of us or write in the group...maybe that would be helpful..that way if there is a lull in activity people still have a n option and some of us have administrative clearance as well...so Rose maybe you could have 2 or 3 who could help you with those issues...we all need a break sometimes and good golly it sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Heaven knows...I have been there through a bad divorce...it is right up with getting seperated from the navy I bet with not hope of re-enlistment. I am so glad we are getting this taken care of...

Comment by Tobianne on December 7, 2010 at 3:47pm: let me chime in also, I am able to help. Diannep sends moms to me when thier recruits are having issues with passing the PFA and or are in RCU. I have had my time in both places (so to speak) so if Lynne you see any that need encouragement in that area also, I am always happy to help. My son was in Seps in Oct. My daughter was in RCU/FIT, her last day in there was Kyles first day in BC. She went on and sadly he came home. He is doing great now though, as a matter of fact he went deer hunting this past weekend and got a buck. Not the biggest he has ever gotten but a buck it is. lol

When she called and said she was coming home and headed to SEPS, I searched N4M for Ship 5 and Seps. The Mast head answered so many of my questions. I'm still a member of 3 groups on N4M.

Does this sound like a plan? That way...I am not getting involved in another group that obviously already is working and yet I don't have to feel like I am sending someone into the abyss....lol.
