Rose...it is so nice to meet you...I have heard so much about you...all good things...you have done such a great job...trust I don't want to step in...I just want to insure that when I send mom's here there is someone here....hmmm maybe we can message and figure out how to work together so you know when someone is headed your way or I don't know what I could do that would help you know when someone is coming....

For example Maribeth you are using words that I don't understand...like RE-8 and what wording should families tell their recruits to look for to insure they are eligible to re-enlist? I think those would be important things for a facilitator of this group to know...just saying.

I knew there were moms lurking around on this site but just not posting. Y'all I need your help...I refer moms here all the time from my PIR groups. I guess I have been letting them down because I just assume that this is an active group and y'all are here and ready to help...but I think they come here and see gaps where no one is chatting and so they don't talk either. I don't know what the answer is...I am happy to start checking in here as a normal part of my daily run through my PIR groups...but I don't want anyone to feel like I am stepping your your toes if you are the main facilitatory. I just think this group is so important because the families are SO upset as many of you know when they hear their recruit is being seperated. What do you think we shoudl do??

My daughter did not flight her case and was there for 14 days. If you have questions, Sepsadmin on the site was very helpful.

My son did not fight his case and was there for 24 days. Hopefully they will get him out before Xmas though.

Lynne, I agree with you 100%. My son was sent to Ship 5 only 6 days before graduation. Now that he is home and I have heard the things that he went through and how sick he was most of basic training I cannot believe that they sent him home. My son's story is a long one and if anyone would like to know what happened please send me a friend a request or if enough of you want to know I will post it here.

The good thing is he is NOT letting it get him down. Since he has returned home (Oct 12) he has enrolled in the local EMT course and has secured a job. He is also working with both the State Representative and Congressman's offices to get ONE word removed from his RE-8 Discharge. He was told when he left Ship 5 that with a medical waiver he can re-enlist. Well that was not the case when he went back to talk to the recruiters.

Anyway, this is a place for support. I have been there where a lot of you moms are now. I know how it feels.

As you come here I know it is difficult, that you have received news you didn't expect and are trying to figure out how to best help your recruit. There are moms who stop by here often to see if people need help or advice. Please leave your stories, your questions and your concerns. Send me a note and I will try to find someone to help you. Thank you, srm54 and tobianne, I appreciate your support and information. Yes, I can see that the biggest problem right now is keeping the depression down and letting him know that he is not a failure. Failure is when you are afraid to try something not when you tried and did your best. Every day I can tell in his voice that it is hard to be there knowing that he won't be a sailor and still being there. When he comes home I am hoping the family and friend support will build him up again.

Kathy, that is the hardest part - making them believe they are not failures. But they are not because they did not give up. I know my son was worried what the family would think (he has given up on a lot of other things he tried) but everyone knows he did not give up and that is what is important.

Oh, that's funny. Justin was told he has collapsing arches and would need orthopedic comat boots. I know with Justin I thought he had selective hearing. He could hear us when he wanted to. lol
