i believe your son can ask for a second opinion, but the order has to come from his commanding officer. my grandaughter has been home for just over 2 weeks. looking for a job and planning to go back to school. she is eligable to reenlist in 6-12 months dependant on medical condition clearing up. my best to your son. i found that calling the seps administration office was a great help,847-688-7444-extension 456. good luck and let me know how things are going.

It will take a few days for your first letter to reach him. I sent my daughter some books overnight from Amazon.com and mailed her another phone card Priority that reached her quickly.

My daughter has been home a week - she can go to BC again in 1 year. She is trying to decide what to do. She thinks that she will work until January, then start vo-tech to be an EMT. It's too late to schedule classes for Fall, we are going to check out the school and get the details about the program next week. She would like to take a class or two online.

My son called me this morning and they're releasing him because he tested positive, although only slightly for TB. My personal feeling is it is a false positive. Apparently they don't double check the test results. I don't know. He's really bummed and said he's to come home in about 2 weeks and then he's to get a medical waiver and can re-enlist in 6-12 months. Has anyone else re-enlisted after getting medical waiver or do they just go on to something else in their lives? This is all he's ever wanted since he was a little boy and then he waited for what seems forever and now this. I don't know how he'll handle it. Is there contact information for Ship 5? His first letter hasn't even arrived to me yet and I still hadn't even gotten the form letter yet either. He's only been there 8 days.

Unfortunately my brother has communicated that he feels the same way about going back in... I think that is sad b/c this was his dream! He even at one point had a seal contract so its not as if they didnt think he was physically capable! I continue to be baffeld at the process for these kids that wanted to serve our country!

It is also my understanding that they do not want to give out medical discharges unless they have too because then they can be held responsible for at minimum whatever problem they are coming home with!

JD's Mom: It is also my understanding that at any time while in seperation they may request to see a jag att. and cannot be denied the access! So he may want to do that if for no other reason than for clarification and so that he call you with the att. Also this is sad to say but it gets them out of seperation for a while!

I have been in touch with the head legal att that advises the CO and have been given a liaison to help move through the process... Even with this it has been very trying and difficult! Our Jag att told me that when the kids go through the legal part of the seperation (which is when they are told what they are being discharged with) that the people advising the have NO LEGAL background and therefore tend to give out misguided information... If there is anything I can do please let me know and I will try to answer any question I can... Do you have his code? Was it listed as an erroneous discharge? It is my uderstanding that unless they have been in for more than 180 days then technically they are not a vet... Has he been told when he be coming home? How many days has it been?

Sounds to me, like even filling out an application is going to be a pain. Is he a vet or no? What is his sep. code, and exactly what does it mean? Why don't they just put ELS on there unless they've done something to deserve a punishment, or if there is a medical reason. And if there's a medical reason, why can't they just give him a medical discharge, and leave it at that? Why make everything so darn complicated? I don't think JD would try again, to get back in. This whole experience has been tough for him.

JD's Mom - My daughter was very discouraged while in SEP. Since she has been home, she is open to give the Navy another try. We are going to get copies of the letter that we gave the recruiter and that did not make it into her file. We will also use a different recruiter if she tries again.

JD is already sick of the hassle, and just wants to get home and put it all behind him. I looked up the number he gave me on Google. The site I found said that he could try to re-enlist, but would have to have a waiver to even be considered. I know of others in the Navy with asthma, but whatever. They told him the only thing it would affect in the outside world, would be if he applied for government jobs. Huh? Maybe he can make me understand it all better when he gets home.
